Title: Replacement Options for Asteroids Cab with Faulty PCB
Post by: Jaseguges on March 12, 2022, 06:48:13 pm
Hello, I picked up my first vintage arcade cabinet last week and I couldn't be more excited. It is a 1979 Atari Asteroids Cabinet and it's in decent shape. Unfortunately, something is wrong with the PCB and the game does not boot. I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions regarding a replacement for the PCB... I'd prefer if it was something that takes advantage of the Vector monitor but I am open to suggestions. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

P.S:

I know the PCB is faulty because the previous owner would swap the PCB out with a working one and the cabinet would work fine.

Might wanna head over to KLOV, there are more experts on original hardware over there.

To the best of my knowledge though, there are no easy modern plug and play B/W vector products at this time (yet). Arcade Jason has shown a number of tests for FPGA products that would plug right into an Asteroids or Asteroids Deluxe harness and play either games.

In the meantime, I'd say get the original PCB repaired. It's a well documented game and lots of people out there with knowledge on how to fix.
