I just picked up a 36" tv on a whim and am now wondering what to do with it.
Anyone have cool 36" CRT projects to share for inspiration?
I prefer traditional upright arcade form factor, but would be interested in seeing cocktail table style and maybe even showcase/pedestal too.

I converted a cabinet to be a 32" showcase cabinet. It could've been a 36".

this one still blows my mind.

Did that 13 years ago and my back still hurts

Seriously, if planning to put a 36" CRT into a cab, use a hoist (like for dropping engines into cars) and check that your health insurance covers chiropractic [EDIT: and physiotherapy] treatment as it may be classified as an "extra".

every time i look at the 32" crt in my living and think "it really should go somewhere else" my back twinges.

When the Cowboys drafted Troy Aikman, my household went from 19” to 27”. And that investment paid off.
My dad always said 27” was the largest one man could comfortably carry whenever we whined for a bigger one.
Now that I’m the same age as he was when delivering that wisdom, and as the owner of a 27” crt, I have to say he was right.

I was mostly joking. I laid the cab on it's side, slid the TV in, bolted it in place then stood the cab up. I was also in my late 20s and still mostly invincible.

That's a clever way to do it, esp if you are using a shelf-type mount - which you probably have to, given the weight.

no used the regular arcade monitor brackets just moved them into position. My friend still has the cab and after 13 years the TV is still fine.

late 30's i could easily carry a 32" up the stairs by myself.
last summer i had to slide it out of my back seat onto the ground then use a hand truck to get it up 3 steps to the front porch then drug it in the door onto furniture sliders across the living room.
then i picked it up to put it on an end table made of real wood.
I agree with you and your dad.
27" is now my new max.
though time crisis on the ps2 is fun with a 32" crt.

No, son, late 30s you lacked the wisdom to know you should bust out the dolly.

I'm busting out the dolly for 27" at this point. My JVC is 106 lbs.

True, and some may only realize this when their undiagnosed hernia reminds them of this thread when they are 65!

Real men aren't shy about getting their dollies out, regardless of how old they are.

at 32ish a dolly was for moving fridges and other appliances too big to wrap my stubby arms around.
using it for a TV never occurred to me back then.
now though as i just turned 50...I don't even get the big bag of cement mix anymore. lol
