Title: Help with vector games
Post by: jimmyjet on February 28, 2004, 08:05:01 am
I have an older computer running mame32.  All my vector games run slowwwwww.  I have scaled back the sound sampling and it has helped a bit.  I have played with the frameskip also.  Anything else I should be trying?  I can't play Tempest like this.  Thanks

I had problems getting low resource games to run properly on a friend's older computer and found installing MAME (The official version) and the GUI Classic Mame ( http://www.mameworld.net/mameclassic/ ) helped a ton.  It's a very easy program to get going and is good for people who suck at complicated setups (like myself).

Since you're using MAME32, I would try lowering the Vector Resolution, chances are you may be running the game to high for your PC to keep up.

If you are using 1024, 800 ... try lowering the res down to 640 and see how it plays.

THanks for the replies.  I turned down the resolution and Tempest is now playable.  It doesn't look as crisp and nice as before, but at least now I can play it.
Battlezone and Asteroids just needed the sound backed down a bit.
Thanks again.
