Title: Ion motherboard replacement Intel 945GCD-CI

FYI,  I got an Intel Atom 945GCD-CI branded e-machines motherboard off of ebay and it worked just fine in the Megatouch Ion.  I think you need 2010 and later software for the intel drivers but seems to work just fine. Even has the E-Machines "E" logo on boot, Ha!

Does it have volume but you just can't adjust it or no volume at all?

I haven't tried that specific model, but a similar model had sound, but the volume control slider did nothing, and the volume was too high.

I would consider this if the only thing not working was the volume slider...
