Title: So I have Groovymame working - what now?
Post by: sittingduck on February 07, 2022, 06:59:45 am
I tried my hand at getting Groovymame up and running on a scart CRT and it worked on my first try. Games are running fine but I still need to setup folders for snaps etc. Also, how do you guys run GM - from the standard GUI or is there a universal better way? Feel free to suggest anything and everything I should like at after getting the games working.  Been out of the Mame loop for 15 years so most of it all is new to me again. Thanks.

Oh, by the way, can GM read a single snap.zip file or should everything be extracted?

If its a dedicated pc build,Id use groovytime.

Its a complete build using windows 7,guides you through the crtemudriver install.Youll be left with Attract Mode front end that just needs the roms dropping in. IIRC the artwork is already present, possibly have to swap out the PNG files for snaps if thats what you prefer.

Heres more detailed instructions if youd like to have a read:

Thanks, Iomoverde. I'll give that a look - nice to have a starting point.

I'm in the same boat.  With life happening and my arcade PC breaking I haven't touched my cabinet for about 15 years.  It's interesting to see how many people who where active 20 years ago still posting.  And even people (like us) who take a decade off and come back aren't super rare.  I bet there aren't too many forums with that sort of longevity.

I recently got GroovyMAME working on a Windows 10 PC with a Betson-Kortek KT-2914 27" multisync monitor.  Still need to set up a front end for it, I found this recent thread about front ends useful:

I hadn't heard of GroovyTime before.  Sounds similar to GroovyArcade (https://gitlab.com/groovyarcade/support/-/wikis/home) but using Win7 as the OS instead of Linux.  I only used GroovyArcade (https://gitlab.com/groovyarcade/support/-/wikis/home) a short time, it's arguably easier to setup then GroovyMAME + CRTemudriver.  Of course if you want to play any Windows games on your cabinet you'd be out of luck (I'm using Windows 10 for the flexibility of using Windows games/software).

Win7 as the OS instead of Linux.
One important difference between Linux and Win7:  Linux is licensed for free distribution but Win7 is not.

Linking to (or hinting where to find) a "no ROMs" Linux image like GroovyArcade doesn't violate Rule 5 (http://new.arcadecontrols.com/arcade_message_rules.html), but doing that for a "no ROMs" Win7 image like GroovyTime does violate Rule 5 because the copyrighted OS files are not licensed for free distribution.
