hi all, with mame on my p4 3ghz dual core 3gb ram system with nvidia gt310 cps2, neogeo games all run fine with normal scanlines. i thought id try out HLSL but the couple of games iv tested in like teenage mutant ninja turtles and final fight emulation speed drops to around 70% of full speed.
could this be due to the graphics card in the system? monitor runs at 1280x1024

Get yourself a AMD R7 240 off ebay for $15. Get one with a DVI splitter.
The 310 is too weak. I would say go higher but even the GT 740 is $300 used.
Newegg had some for $58 but they were system pulls.....
Or don't bother and turn HLSL off.

im gonna try a few of the gfx cards i have lying around here in the parts bin. smallest one i found so far is a nvidia gt240. specs wise its should be 4 time faster than the gt310 so hopefully it will work out.

fan on gt240 is too big to fit. iv taken the gfx card from my old pc which is now spare. its a geforce 730. hopefully its enough.

At least in the older version of MAME that I am running (v.146 IIRC), reducing the scaling factor in MAME can help. There are a half dozen games on my cab where I have HLSL turned off to get the games up to full speed. NFL Blitz comes to mind. Also had to set that one to the lower res monitor dipswitch option. I swear the scaling seems to tax the cpu, but have been told by a dev that I am incorrect. I would think they know better than me.

This is now sorted. The gt730 card solved the issue. Getting full speed in the games iv tested so far with hlsl enabled.
Crappy gt310 only got 16 shaders lol. the gt 730 has 384 hahah.

shame my gt240 didnt fit in the system, fan too big. it has 96 shaders which i think is still gonna be plenty seeing as how the 16shader gt310 did get 70% emulation speed.
