Ok. Here's how to change the logon background

How to change logon screen background in Home and Pro

1. Click Start > click Run > type regedit > and click OK.

2. Navigate to the following registry key:
HKEY_USERS\DEFAULT\Control Panel\Desktop

3. In the details pane (right-side), double-click the Wallpaper string value item.

4. In Value data , type the path and name of the picture or background, and then click OK .

IMPORTANT: Make sure that you specify the path correctly to the Background. And that it is a Bitmap!

You have now changed the logon Background.

This will take effect when you logoff.

Or here are a few third party tools to do it.

Logon loader will do it for the logon page, not sure about the logoff.

Style XP is also a good solution, and it does themes too.

Hope it helps

I've read through the many threads on removing the "Welcome" screen in XP.  What I've found in trying the suggestions (I don't want to change my shell to the front end) is if I uncheck the "use welcome screen" under User Accounts in the Control Panel, I am left to either type a password (to log into XP) or need to press enter to bypass the password screen.

As it is now, my machine will lauch right into the frontend (it's dropped into the startup folder) AFTER I see the "Welcome" screen.  I've found that changing the boot screen doesn't change/affect the "Welcome" screen, it only changes the boot screen just before the "Welcome" screen.  Wow, that's sure a lot of quotations...

Does anyone know of a way to remove the "Welcome" screen without needing to go the XP password route or shell change route?

Thanks!

Edit: I posted this in the Software forum where it's more appropriate.

uncheck "use welcome screen" in your user accounts in the control panel. Then select Start->run->type "control userpasswords2". Then untick "user must enter a user name and password to use this computer". Then select an account and type in the password. It should log in now without the login screen coming up.
