I know I'm lining myself up for a slaughtering but I'm going to ask anyway.
I've got my mame cab how I want it and had no intentions of adding any consul stuff like I had years ago. Previously had NES, SNES, Jaguar, all launched from mala.
But, now I'm clearing out and selling all my old PS1/2 stuff I've suddenly come over all nostalgic.
Came across a few games me and the missus used to love.... in particular Kula World and Devil Dice from the PS1. Some other great puzzle games as well.
So I've decided to look into ePSXe. Last time I tried a PS emulator was bleem, and it was painful. Probably the older PC not up to the job.
Current PC is an I5 with a low end graphics card.
I think the puzzle games should lend themselves to my CPs ok, as I have interchangeable 4 way, 8 way, 1 player and 2 player. None of the games require analogue.
Not worried about booting from mala, and probably best if I don't anyway, as I've got plugins running in mala for rotating the crt. So launching from the desktop will suffice if necessary.
And guess I would stick the disc images on a 2nd SSD? Just guessing as I haven't really looked into it too closely yet.
Just looking for opinions either way.
So, any opinions / advise before I start down this road?

ePSXe hasn't been a good Playstation emulator for at least 20 years now (and it wasn't even especially good before that, just had a large userbase)
I think all the 'cool kids' are using Duckstation or something like that.

Thankyou.
I'm not really a cool kid, more an old fart.
Checked a few youtube vids and Duckstation looks great. It never came up in any of my searches for a PS emulator so I would never have seen it.

OK, so the next question... has anybody hardwired from a PS1 controller to an Ipac and /or an Apac?

ePSXe is actually a great emulator with tons of features. Duckstation is cool too, but ePSXe is completely solid. Runs full speed on low end hardware and has a million customization options.

How would that even work? Ipac is for interfacing with simple open/close switches. PSX controllers have their own communication protocol, similar to NES/SNES iirc.
Why would you want to? Just get a Playstation->USB adapter.
This was my thinking... and I could be miles wrong (I usually am, which is why I ask the silly questions)
My mame cab has quick change CPs, that all plug into the main body via rj45 patch leads. They are then connected directly to an ipac, an apac, and an Optipac. These stay permanently connected to their USB sockets, and windows never loses their locations. I'm trying to avoid connecting / disconnecting USBs. So, I wanted to hack a gamepad and solder directly across the contacts of the gamepad which would put them directly to the Ipac and Apac, via the hot swap rj45 cables. I know I could do this with any PC game controller but I've got PS controllers knocking around so wanted to use them, especially as it's a PS I want to emulate. I see no reason it wouldn't work the same as any other pad but was more concerned with the analogue, as I'm thinking some TOCA action would be nice after all these years.
I'm definitely not thinking I could use the gamepad electronics into an ipac or apac.

I'll have to try both, thank you.
It was bleem I used previously, with poor result, which could simply have been the low end pc.
