Hello! I'm very new to this forum. But anywho, a few weeks back I got my hands on an HP P930 CRT monitor for a good price, and was around where I live. So I bought one without hesitation. I had it for a day, and was pretty happy with it. Until a day later when it decided to stop working on me. It refuses to show the green light, show any picture and makes a subtle clicking noise around the PSU-area. So I decided to open up the monitor to find out what the problem is. It was tricky to get the back-panel off, but I figured it out in the end. From there, it was smooth sailing.
Until I wanted to get the PSU out. That's where I got stumped after I took off the metal shielding. I have no idea how to slide the PSU-part of the monitor off, and has been a real head-scratcher for weeks to me. There's next to no info about this particular monitor, and I can't find much on its Compaq-equivelant, which I believe is the Compaq 7550. At least not much on how to disassemble this thing. I can't find any tabs or precisely anything that I can see at least holding the tray with the PSU. All I want to do is to find some caps that have been crapped. If there's anyone here that knows about HP or Compaq CRTs, I would gladly want some help.

You might find it isn't really a "tray", in that it won't just slide out. That lower flat piece of metal is an integral part of what holds the whole thing together to support the heavy glass CRT. It looks like everything is still cabled to it. There might be a way to remove it, but you might be better off starting from the top to test things anyway.
See what you can remove, like the neckboard or other parts, that gives you access to the PSU area. Or, even better, try the connector points on the PSU board in place, while it's on, or even the points the PSU connects to on other boards, and test voltages. A lot of the time those points will have voltages marked on them. Just don't touch the yoke, rings or any neck assemblies until you have absolutely no other choice, because then you'll have to set up the convergence and purity again.

I see. So I'll disassemble whatever I can disassemble before getting to the PSU. But isn't it a little dangerous to be checking voltages on a CRT while it's turned on? Regardless, thanks for the answer. I'll keep that in mind.

You can't check voltages without turning the unit on. The trick is to not touch anything dangerous - so keep your "other" hand in your pocket if you're not using it.
Ideally we should all use isolation transformers when doing this kind of work. They "isolate" the power to the unit from mains. This means if you touch the wrong thing on the CRT, power won't want to (or is unlikely to) earth through you.
You could also just avoid putting fingers into anything you obviously shouldn't while power is on (like the anode cap, flyback pins, "HOT" side of chassis ... if in doubt then don't touch it). Take care and use common sense.

Yes, the "Be safe" mantra applies at all times! If you're not sure or not comfortable, don't touch anything :)
