So i plugged my offline cab in to the net for about 15 minutes to upgrade something. Big Mistake. It still boots fine into Attractmode, but whenever a game closes and AM comes back up it grabs a fricking 640x480p mode from somewhere. If i exit to desktop it stays at 480p double-image, and then if i use ArcadeOSD some modes will come up corrupted, though some will work at 15kHz - after which things go back to normal until i run Attractmode again.
It turns out the AMD External Events service had turned itself back on, and i've now stopped and disabled it. But the problem persists.
Anyone know what else i might try here?

Hi buttersoft,
Is that Windows 10? The OS updated itself too, right?
I saw something similar hapen on Arcade OSD some time ago, but it was on 7. Upon exiting fullscreen for mode edition, it didn't restore the desktop properly.
My understanding is this happens when a fullscreen app exits without explicitely restoring the desktop mode (probably 99% of apps). Windows is supposed to remember what the previous video mode was and restore it, but it looks like it's failing to do so.

Hi Calamity, long time no speak!
Yeah, i would guess that's it. The OS did update, yes. But last time AM did this to me, in about 2017, stopping and disabling the AMD External Events service fixed the problem. This time it's not. All the games themselves exit to a 15kHz desktop just fine, if run on their own. So the problem is clearly AM.
You can't set resolution in AM, and i've tried different combinations of fullscreen, fill, borderless, etc. No Dice. I was hoping to track something down about program history in the registry, and erased everything AM-related in there when i couldn't find anything suspicious, but that didn't help either.
I also tried "reinstalling" AM, but the problem persists. I use the quotes because it doesn't actually install itself.

maybe this if I understand your issue correctly.

I'm already running the resfix plugin due to previous issues... :(
But you have my thanks for the suggestion! It did get me out of a fix before and might work for a lot of people :)
EDIT: i restored a backup and took more care when connecting to the net. All good so far...
