Title: Retroarch - PAL woes
Post by: TwitstedEpoch on April 01, 2021, 11:34:31 am
Hi all. I'm hoping that somebody here can help. I am using Groovymame and Retroarch via a frontend on my New Net City arcade cab. I recently discovered that everything works great with the exception of PAL console/Micro games on Retroarch. The image is squashed into a small horizontal band in the middle of the screen. Has anyone else experienced this?

Many thanks

EDIT:
Win7
CRT Emudriver 2.0 (18.5)
New Net City (Toshiba PF D29C051)

hello, i have no problem with PAL games on RetroArch or groovymame.
Sorry I don't remember where (because i set my config a long time ago and i'm not at home to look at it now), but there is an option in VMMaker that is actived by default and don't allow the creation of 50Hz modelines.

Thanks very much. I've just had a look in the VMMaker settings and .ini but I can't seem to find anything relevant.

in the "User modes" panel, "Mode table Method" is set to "dynamic", change it to "static" and add in your "user modes - super.ini" (or the custom file you use) some modeline at 50Hz
for example, add :
2560 x 288 @ 50.000000 superPAL
then regenerate and install modes

Amazing, that worked! Thanks very much for your help.

All of the systems on RetroArch are working now, with the exception of Sharp X6800 which is bizarrely exhibiting the same video issue.

EDIT: I have just discovered that I am having the same squashed video issue with Master System games (PAL and NTSC) regardless of which core I select. Mega Drive/Genesis games are working perfectly however.

I use Genesis GX core and i don't have problem with Master System games.
In the core options, I set "border" to "full" for Master System and "top/bottom" for Megadrive

PS: Master System and Megadrive are also well emulated with groovymame.

[EDIT] do you use "close content" before loading an other game ?
When I don't close content before loading an other game I sometime get the same issue has you.
