My neighbor txted me and said, hey, you like arcade stuff right... I have something for you. So he brings me this. He found it on the side of the road about to be tossed in the trash. lol This will be my first
restore (build whatever I think looks cool )project. Stay tuned while I start this project. Any advice is appreciated... Or if anyone has any cool ideas
-
That looks like one of my first projects, nothing there but big ideas...In hindsight that's not a bad thing, and yours is in decent condition, all the work is already done in stripping it down anyway...Is that a laminate? Cause if it is your in a really good position to redo it before you start, the topglass, boards, and legs are your hard to find and focus on that as you work...The stickers and decals are really the only thing to scan or save for copies, the speaker is probably junk, but don't throw anyting away until you are done as reference...Depending of course how nice you want it.

I plan on loading games on this that only applicable to the machine, anyone have a list?
Jennifer...
Absolutely. Any idea what machine this was originally. Im going to turn into a MAME cabinet and put it in the brewery for our break time. Local glass company down the street can cut anything I need they say lol Not sure how much it would cost. Gonna install a nice coin door. etc etc

It looks like model 367xx is Kangaroo. If you are really restoring the cab than that is where you can start.
-
Find a good vertical, no more than two button list and you should be Golden

Great, Yup. Gonna redo the entire top. The screen is landscape and I want it to be a two player cocktail setup for my own enjoyment. Definitely not restoring it to what it was originally. The classics
Pac man
Ms Pacman
Galaga
Donkey Kong
Frogger
Mario Bros
Joust
Time Crisis 5
Fortnite
The basics

Then please don't call it a restoration.
It is sad to see another original cab lost to history.
You could buy a cocktail shell for like 200 bucks.
-
Fixed. :-)

To be fair, that Atari sticker is not original to that cocktail cabinet. Atari never made a Kangaroo cocktail, and if they did, they wouldn’t have used a Midway style cabinet. I’m sure someone just pulled the sticker off another cabinet and slapped it on that one.

It’s OK, I’m the only person I know who really likes Kangaroo. :-)

Who can resist punching a monkey in the face?
Kangaroo is a good game that everyone shits on.

Maybe if the monkeys threw that ---steaming pile of meadow muffin--- at the Kangaroo it would be seen as a better game.

Just punch as fast as you can ;)

That's basically my strategy until I get apple cores(?) dumped on my head or that pink monkey punches me in the nuts. I'm not even sure I understand how to get higher scores. What is the point if ringing the bell? the level gets populated with fruit that is worth more. Should I be going up and down the first level as much as I can collecting fruit and ringing the bell before time runs out or just race to the top?
On topic: every time I see a cocktail cabinet I want one... but I don't feel like cutting out the pieces. Haruman makes a kit that I've looked at 100 times but it's made out of 1/2" material... which doesn't seem right to me.
-
I've had several cocktail cabinets. I always like the looks of them, but can't really stand them for actual use and the amount of space they take up doesn't justify it for me.
-
Oh I agree, This is just for fun for the brewery for a while then Ill probably just sell it, i need a couple new projects
