Hi, I bought a GRS spinner for use with my Mame cab. It works great for Tempest and Arkanoid, but I can't get Tron to detect it.
Analog dial is set to mouseX in the options.
The spinner works as the X mouse axis in windows so hardware wise it's working fine and is being correctly detected as as USB mouse. I'm also having the same problem using the same Mame setup on my main PC.
I'm using an old version of Mame |(v0.165 as my cab has been running for quite a few years, and runs XP - don't laugh! - It works with my romset aso I'm not changing it for now!).
I tried the following:
Setting these core input options in Mame.ini:
mouse 1
multimouse 1
Setting these core input automatic enable options:
paddle_device mouse
dial_device mouse
mouse_device mouse
I've also tried creating a custom tron.ini with the same options but it still doesn't work.
Any ideas?

Analog dial is set to mouseX in the options.
multimouse 1
Multimouse keeps the mouse inputs for each device separate.
MAME is looking for a mouse X-axis, but not necessarily the mouse X-axis that your spinner is on.
Try remapping the spinner in the "Input (this Game)" menu. ;D

Thanks, I've already tried remapping in the 'this game' section (it's default bound to mouse X anyway), but it refuses to respond to the spinner, or the mouse button I've attached to it. It's like mouse doesn't exist, but it works fine on the desktop and in other games.

No idea why remapping isn't working for you. :dunno
Did you set the Dial Analog "INC" and "DEC" inputs to "none"?
Have you tried disabling multimouse?

I have the same GRS Spinner.
You just have to map it in MAME.
It works on Pi/OG Xbox/PC flawlessly.
Check your USB cable and ensure that the connector is well seated.
