Does anyone have any ideas on how to make a fake coin door? Basicaly my problem is that I'm making a mini and a normal sized coin door will dwarf the cab. So I'm looking to make something that looks like a coin door but about 65% of the size of a pinball coin door, I'll throw a couple of rectangular buttons on for the coin return buttons, which will be for credits.

Just cut a piece of aluminium to shape, drill and file the holes to size. Then prime and paint to your choice of colour/texture and install.

Anyone have a good quality shot of a pinball coin door that I might be able to design something like this from?
-
Why not just use a mini coin door?

Enlighten me Peale... :-\

He's suggesting that you just use a coin door that is smaller than a normal coin door ;)
Seriously though, check here:

It's only 14" tall.

Now that I think about it, what kind of coin door does an upright galaga have? I'm hoping to make this as close as posible.
And also, I'm pretty sure that a regular sized pinball door is smaller than those, except wider of course.
-
You could just use the "over" of an over/under coin door.

I am now looking for the dimensions of the coin reject buttons and the coin return bezels, so if you have 'em please post 'em.
I think I've decided to make my own fake coin door. Aproximately 6-6

Pinball doors are no smaller than upright doors, sometimes they are actually a bit larger (Gottlieb System 80 doors).
Coin doors come in all sorts of shapes and sizes. The over/under style, and the square "Midway" sized ones (also common on pins, and EM equipment dating back to the early 60s), ARE the most common, but they aren't the only ones out there.

Going by the exploded view of happs pinball coin door, it's aproximatly 11

Have you seen any pictures of my Space Firebird? It has a factory wooden door with reject buttons on it (the coin slots themselves are on the panel), maybe that would be an easier solution.
Also, you know you can just rig a real coin door to do the same thing, right? I have several machines that credit up by activating the coin reject buttons.
Another option might be to snag a cocktail coin acceptor plate (with reject switched) and mount that on a small wooden door.
But like other posters said, they already make small coin doors, and a used one (once repainted) would work fine, and almost certainly be cheaper and more authentic than one you would make yourself.

If you want to make a cabaret or mini Galaga, then just get a Midway cocktail cabinet door that came on the Pacman and Galaxian machines:
http://www.klov.com/game_detail.php?letter=P&game_id=10816
It's about 40% smaller in width then the full Midway door and you would still have the Midway look w/ the horizontal coin slot and $.25 coin insignia. You may have to be a bit patient in waiting for one to show up on Ebay, but they do show up from time to time (my friend just bought one about 3 mos. ago). Unfortunately I don't have the dimensions to give you.

Anyone know the dimensions of the door on this?

The one on that cabaret appears to be a standard full size door, and I OWN a Midway cocktail and it has the exact same door that all my other midway games have.

I bought a 2-slot coin dorr which was basically the top half only of an over-under coin door. It is 9-1/2"x7" only. It was the perfect size for my driving cab.

I was doing the same for the minis I am making. I was going to print a smaller version of a Happs coin door leaving the coin return blank so that the red rectangular buttons would set there. It looks good but the minis don't have a flat front. Meaning the front panel jogs in a couple inches and the cp is rotating leaving no space for the upper portion. So I would have to put the door at the very bottom and it just looks funny so I am not doing the fake coin door anymore.
If you would like the jpg file I created your welcome to give it a try.

That would be awesome Nannuu, I would appreciate that alot. Thanks in advance!

I do appreciate the coin door pic Nannuu, but I was hoping to do a pinball type coin door so I'm still looking for decent pictures of a pinball coin door if anyone has em...
-
What exactly do you mean by "pinball style door". My buddy and I have several pins between us, and the doors they use are no different than standard squarish arcade coin doors. I am actually pretty sure that at least one of my uprights has the exact same door as my Victory pin.
