Title: Tab function disappeared **FIXED - DISREGARD**
Post by: rob on February 23, 2004, 05:39:26 pm
OK, I'm completely at a loss and have been trying to figure out how to fix this or even what happened for hours now....

I was playing a game, and hit tab to switch some controls, and nothing happened.  I disconnected my IPAC and was doing just straight keyboard and still nothing when hitting tab.  All the other controls still work, it's just tab that doesn't work.  It worked last night, but when I booted up my computer this morning, it wouldn't work.

So, I backed up my roms, and deleted MAME.  I then re-installed MAME and it STILL WON'T work!  What the smack?  I am using mamemenu as my frontend.  I went directly into dos and was launching games from there, and still the same thing.

I've tried looking through as much documenation as I can, but can't find anything that'll help me.

I don't like posting a problem without giving 100% effort to fix it myself first, but I'm competely at a loss here.

Any help would be greatly appreciated...

Thanks guys.

PS- I've searched through the MAME forums, these forums, and have been digging throught the documentation.  Maybe I'm just stupid, but I'm hopin' ya' don't think this is a case of RTFM

PS2- I just found in the documentation where it says to delete default.cfg if you're having this problem, so I did.  Nope, still not working.  TAB is the ONLY command not working.

Does the tab key work in any other programs?

Normally I would have suggested the 'default.cfg' thing immediately, but since you've tried this with no joy, I'm interested why it's not working myself.  So we'll start with the basics.

Good thinking.  I ran out tested that right away.  Yep, it works in all other programs.  This is killing me.  I hate problems like this!

Is it bad that I don't even have that file anywhere on my computer?  I have mame.ini, but no mameui.ini

When you say deleted mame you mean everything, even cfg folders?

normally when this happens you just delete you default.cfg or mame.cfg, whatever it is in the cfg folder.

Also you may want to look into using ctrlr files for key configurations from now on.

Nope.  I based the name on what I have in my mame32 folder.  Mine is mame32ui.ini, so I thought maybe yours was mameui.ini.  Try that one, and try the suggestions that SirPoonga gave.

Yes, I deleted everything.  And then reinstalled.  I deleted the default.cfg after the reinstall because it still wasn't working, and that didnt' work either.

OK, I'm looking into this ctrlr files thing now.

UPDATE FIXED-  Thanks.  I went into the mame.ini and change the "cfg's" to point to c:\mame\cfg instead of c:\mame like it's always been, and that fixed it!

I have no idea why, but that worked!

Thanks for all your help!
