Title: Experience using cheap Amazon arcade stick + control board?
Post by: jlfreund on January 19, 2021, 10:07:14 pm
Does anyone have experience using cheap joystick/controller combos from Amazon (like this: https://tinyurl.com/yyg3rzle)?  I saw lots of great reviews, so I decided to give it a try, and ran into problems...

My experience was:

Joystick: Seems to hit a little bump every time you rotate the joysticks in a circle, which really disrupts the gameplay.

Controller: Had two problems: (A) Only the first board was recognized by Windows.  Second board (and I tried two alternates) both show up in my USB devices list as well as the Windows USB Game Controllers app, but no matter what inputs I wire the controls to, none of the control events get through to Windows; (B) The cards post as "Generic USB Controller", not an HID device.  Not sure why anyone would want a USB Game Controller for building a control panel.  You can use third party software to remap game controller codes to keyboard characters, but it would be much easier to just buy a keyboard encoder.

Ended up keeping the push buttons, but tossing everything else, and buying an IPAC2 + Suzo Happ Competitions.
