Title: NOOOOOOO...must...play...pacman....
Post by: Nerd Of Nerds on February 23, 2004, 12:07:03 pm
Hi

the other day i decided to start working on my mame machine again. since my laptop power supply died i haven't had a computer to put in it... but i went out and bought a power supplyjust to find that one of my motherboards was dead....i found another one and started working on that, it was quite a chore since i didn't have a cd drive for drivers and the like... after working on that for about 3 hours i finally got mame32 on it and was about to load asteroids and the computer reset and went to the bios screen and stopped working, i reset it, it didn't get into windows, i tried again, i got into windows and the the graphics got all screwy... and it froze... now it doesn't start at all, and i had proper cooling for it ??? i am currently using a pentium 100 that can BARELY run pacman without sound >:(

does anyone have ANY idea wtf is wrong with this board? is it the graphics card? is it the processor?

i am getting desperate to play some pacman and double dragon... :'(

Look for "swollen" or leaking capacitors on the board.

for a pentium 100, use vantage or an older build of mame--will run it flawlessly--newer mame builds are more processor intensive, I assume mame32's GUI needs some more horsepower as well.

Like Menace said, older version of Mame, ditch Mame32 and try to run it in DOS if you can on something like ArcadeOS.
