Title: No sir, I don't like it.
Post by: Mike A on December 14, 2020, 04:19:36 pm
I am being censored now.

I guess it is time to take a break from this place for awhile. Nothing dramatic. I am not going to delete any of my posts. I am not going to throw a tantrum.

I may or may not be back. Hell I might be back tomorrow. who knows.

Censored? What for?

Hell, I thought you needed censored a long time ago. :)   Seriously though, this place needs people. Hate to see anyone go. Maybe reconsider, or take a break and come back.

Mike disagreed with ChanceKJ, then Chance ratted him out to the mods.

Hope you wander back, Mike.

I admit, you ruffled my feathers a little once, long time ago near when you first joined up - but I subsequently decided you're all right.  I've thought so ever since.

Place would be diminished without ya.

How does Chance have time to rat out Mike when hes creating fake profiles to keep his thread afloat?

Yup, this community is just as fundamentally hypocrite as any other in the nerdsphere. Definitely got that confirmation.

 :censored:

Got censored twice in a short period, mmh...which mod was it telling me "Saint is very strongly in favor of freedom of speech" ?

edit: yes so since every community that's cooperative with mamedev accepts to quash the most troublesome critics for them, making it impossible to write anything of value (and I though byoac was better than MW or reddit lol), I'll do that elsewhere where their influence can't reach, and this time enough f*ing around posting in random occasions on forums. Time to be thorough.
The MAMEscarade has to end and I will f* end it.
All that's great and laudable about MAME will always fully be kept intact, always give to Caesar what belongs to Caesar, but all the BS about it and its makers being deliberately disrupted, silenced and erased, is too much.
As they say villains who twirl their moustaches are easy to spot. Those who clothe themselves in good deeds are well camouflaged.
Well let's tear up that camouflage, remove the mask (not the covid one keep it on please), witness what's behind might not be pure villains, but nothing that's nearly as clean and irreprocheable as they try to make it all look.
And more importantly free the critics speech, because we're not in soviet russia. We should never be.

saint is very strongly in favor of rules of decourum - I don't care what your opinion is in terms of freedom to post it. Try without attacking folks and cursing. The rules are posted, please read them.

No, you're not in Soviet Russia - you're in my digital home, ignoring the rules I ask folks to follow when they're here. Don't sharpen your claws on my curtains, thanks.

Feel free to post whatever you want about MAME - should go in the software forum probably - without attacking people or cursing at them.

If that doesn't work for you, this isn't the forum for you.

The threats being made sound very much like the same nature as the ones that drove byuu out of the scene.

Somebody who made the best Snes emulator on the planet by a huge margin, but got mostly abuse for years because it had high requirements and because he had his own ideas for how he wanted it designed, somebody who now contributes nothing because far-right knuckleheads got involved.

The 'critics' in that case couldn't accept simple logic, or a real inside explanation either.

Never heard of Bayou or what he ever contributed with his massive conception of genius but who cares, if he is so far left...Keep stepping pal.

Well if you think it's ok for literal neo-nazis to leave a developer fearing for their own life because some users were so butthurt about the direction his projects were going, and couldn't understand the subtleties of his ROM documentation, then I really don't know what to say.  (because yes, that's what happened, said butthurt users went to a site / forum where said people are 'for hire' and sent a crowd of them in byuu's direction)

Those are the vibes I'm getting from the threats being made.

Wouldn't actually kill people to try & understand we have good reasons for the decisions we've made.

::)

Good job shitting up another thread Haze.

Sounds like you need to re-read the thread if that's honestly what you think.

I'm expressing concerns over what seem to be some rather unhinged threats being made, which are starting to follow the pattern of a far more serious incident which was about issues not too dissimilar to these.  Similar threats were made in previous threads from the same poster, backing up another person who was making threats of tracking down somebody for the purpose of physical violence.  Hopefully saint keeps an eye on things because frankly, over choices made in an emulation project we work on for free, this is literally insane.

I have added said poster to the ignore list, but apparently that functionality is broken here, or does not work in the same way as on other forums.

I'll agree that schmerzkaufen threadcrapped, but you're just dialing the drama up to new levels.

byuu brought SNES emulation into this century and did a lot for emulation in general. I can confirm Haze's description of how byuu was treated by some people (threats on life, racist stuff) for daring to make decisions about his own project.

I feel similarly about MAME. Since it's free, I don't contribute code, and I can only benefit from its use - feel that I'm in no position to dictate what it should or shouldn't do. Just my personal thought though.
