Background: A friend built a Mame cabinet for me many years ago, but recently the motherboard seems to have gone bad. I'm thinking I want to replace all the PC internals with a new motherboard, video card, CPU, SSD, etc., and go with GroovyMAME/GroovyArcade. The monitor and all the controls are still connected and I think should still work just fine if I can get them hooked up to a new PC build.
The monitor is a Tovis / Vision Pro MTG-2901CN. I'm a newbie at building a Mame machine myself, and I still can't quite understand how to connect the monitor to a new video card.
I'm thinking of a Radeon HD 5450 or HD 6450 with a VGA connector for the new video card.
The monitor is currently connected to the old video card with 6 wires that are soldered directly onto pins of a DVI connector. The wires connect to the monitor chassis with a 6 pin Molex connector, and the V/S and H/S pins seem to be jumped together at the Molex connector.
So my questions:
- Is this monitor a good candidate for GroovyMAME?
- How do I go about connecting to a new video card? Should I make my own cable by stripping one end of a VGA cable and then adding the 6 pin Molex connection? Would I add the jumper across V/S and H/S as is done for the current connection?
- Should I use an arcade monitor video amplifier? How would this change the connections?
I've never worked with arcade monitors before, so I've still got a ton to learn! Any other suggestions would be greatly welcomed!
