Title: Other games that can be played on a dual joystick setup
Post by: processedmeat on September 25, 2020, 03:01:01 pm
Hi, I'm building a Karate Champ and wanted to get more out of the build by putting other fun games into it.

I've already gone through the obvious list of twin stick games e.g. krull, robotron (I know its horizontal but I don't mind it being stretched out to vertical) but I was wondering if you knew of other games like vanguard or space zap that this dual joystick setup could somewhat emulate.

Edit: Tapper, Timber

There's a dual joystick game list in the wiki.

Thanks for the replies, I was already able to use those lists for my initial lineup.

I was actually asking if there were games like Vanguard that isn't dual stick but the 4 directional fire buttons could be mapped to the second joystick and be reasonably playable.

How about the Taito Aim-n-Fire games?

There are six games that used this type of controller:
- Front Line
- The Tin Star
- Wild Western
- Sheriff (Nintendo)
- Bandido (Exidy -- licensed re-release of Sheriff)
- Western Gun Part II (Taito -- licensed re-release of Sheriff)

Another option is to play these games on a Robotron-style dual-stick setup.
- Left stick for movement.
- Right stick for aim and map all four directions to fire in MAME.

You can certainly have Vanguard setup for Dual stick.

you can use 1 Joystick for some games.

One came to mind  Space Zap.

Since Karate Champ are Four-Way Sticks, you can play the Pacman Family.

Tapper was a dual stick game. One to push/pull the pour (the tapper), and one to control the barman.

I always liked Crazy Climber, but I think that was dual 8 way (but I can't recall.) It's on the list of dual controller games, but it's the only one that really sticks out in my mind as something special... other than tapper
