Wondering if anyone can chime in on assisting with identifying what this arcade game:
It's a side scrolling horizontal 1 or 2 player game that features a soldier shooting his enemies along a jungle brown terrain that with trees - the unique thing that I remember (I think) is that there's chunks of land (triangle shaped pieces of grass islands) that seem to drop from above and the soldier can jump on it.
I remember the cabinet graphics - shows the character in a muscle shirt and wearing sunglasses.
I'm hoping the above can help me finish painting what this game title is...thanks
Cheers

Sounds a bit like some parts of Contra, but the sideart characters have headbands instead of sunglasses. :dunno
Maybe try looking through the cabs in your Front End cabinet directory or here.

Not Metal Slug?

PL1: thought it might be Contra as well, but unfortunately not :-\
I'll have a look at the link that you sent - hopefully, it's comprehensive and this CAB I'm looking for is in fact there.
It is similar to Metal Slug in some ways, but not quite.....forgot to mention that in this particular game, the screen graphic shakes (I think) from to time when the a boss comes out, or an advancement to something more difficult.
Thanks

Around what year was it that you played?
-
I believe the time period was 1980-1982 era.
-
Are you sure? That's super early for a run-n-gun.

Has to be later than that as the only game at the time was Front Line or Jungle Hunt.

And both Jungle Hunt and Front Line had the Taito generic side art. My guess is Commando but I'm only going off the fact the guy has a muscle shirt but does not have sunglasses and Commando is top down not side scrolling.
Upon looking further there is also the following for the 80's: Ikari Warriors, Guerrilla Wars, Heavy Barrel, Assault, and Cabal.

I was going to suggest M.I.A.: Missing in Action but there are a few problems with that. It's more of a run-n-knife game than run-n-gun, and it was late 80s.

Got it!!! It's called Mercs - finally found it....it was a lot later in the years that I thought it was.
-
I was thinking Mercs but than you said side scrolling and Mercs is a top down view. I had Mercs for the Genesis played it all the time; Forgotten Worlds was another 2 player upgrade your weapons game I played all the time
-
I thought Mercs was a horizontal scroller....ooops. Well, I truly enjoyed the game, and will need to make sure it's on my CAB :) It's been way too long and I can only recall some graphics as described.
Thanks to all! :)

You didn't enjoy it that much if you couldn't even remember what the actual gameplay looked like.

I loaded it up and played a bit of it last night, which brought back more memories indeed.......it's been over 3 decades since so memory isn't much there too much any longer to remember back in the day. :dizzy:
