Title: Trackball help please - old model, not sure how to connect
Post by: timsatari on August 31, 2020, 12:01:01 am
Hi all - moving through my very long-term old project and need some guidance please in relation to the trackball.

Truth is, I can't even remember where I purchased it from (maybe 10 years ago) and wish to use it now if possible.

Please see the images, the underside of the installed unit, it has 2 x 4 pin connectors.. I've taken one out to show the board.

How / what do I connect these to? I have two 4 pin connectors in my kit too... any assistance appreciated.

I have one of these. I think maybe Ultimarc sold them for a short while. Anyway, I've attached a picture. The outside wires are 5v (red) and ground (black). The inside 2 wires are x/y take a look at the photo ive attached.

The wires themselves need to be attached to something like an OptiPac or Opti-Wiz or some other trackball/spinner encoder board.

Found this pinout and note on the Ultimarc OptiPac page here (https://www.ultimarc.com/control-interfaces/opti-pac/opti-pac/), "installation" tab.

The track side of the PCB should look like this. If it is the "special" type for Mini-PAC it will have two extra resistors added to this side.

As Mahuti indicated, you'll need an optical encoder:
- Ultimarc Opti-Pac
- GGG OptiWiz
- Ultimarc I-Pac2 (2015 or newer)
- Ultimarc Mini-Pac
- Arduino with mouse firmware
