Title: Videoworld Arcade Cabinet
Post by: DtM2000 on August 16, 2020, 07:22:55 am
Hi Everyone,

I’m new to this Group and found it after trying to do some research on a Videoworld Arcade Cabinet I recently picked up. Originally, I was just looking for a shell to install an x-arcade joystick onto with a modern monitor and Raspberry Pi. However, after switching it on I was pleasantly surprised that is if fully functioning. The only issue I have is that sometimes the screen doesn’t show the picture so is probably faulty and on it’s way out. (I’m presuming as it’s VGA I could install another more modern screen?).

It has 8 pages of 6 games and they are all early to mid 80s games.
All components apart from monitor seem to be original.

I haven’t been able to find anything on this cabinet but hopefully someone on here has or can point me in the right direction? I searched Videoworld on here but no responses.

Thanks in advance,
DtM

Likely some kind of custom job running a "50-in-1" type bootleg board. All I know is, if I were you I would DEFINITELY scrap that control panel. Square buttons... meh.

Regarding the monitor: If it's running a real CGA monitor (not VGA) you'd need an adapter to use something newer, but in my opinion, I prefer the real thing to a flat panel. That said, if the monitor is mostly running and looks decent enough without too much burn-in, you might just need to do a "cap kit" on the monitor to get it running well again. If you can't handle a soldering iron to do that, depending on the area you live in you might find someone else capable of doing it for you for a reasonable price. Depending on the monitor type, there are kits that for repairing arcade monitors that can be found on eBay. Last time I had this done, it cost less to get it done + the kit than to buy a new/decent LCD.

Sidenote: it was actually PaigeOlliver that did the cap kit for me. Dunno if he still does, but he used to live a few minutes from my house.

Thank you for your reply. After a bit if research I’ve found out the card is an arcade 48 in 1 Jamma vertical card.

I disconnected the monitor and plugged in an old flat screen TV via the VGA which worked. I’ll probably swap it out permanently so I can get a bigger screen in. It’ll make the unit so much lighter too.

Yeah, agree with you on the buttons which are awful. I’m undecided whether I swap the buttons for round ones or do a diy install of an x-arcade dual stick I have. That’s nicer but a bit if work cutting out to make it fit.

Watch this space I suppose.

If you're gonna get rid of the monitor, put if up for sale or free on Craigslist. Someone will take it.
