All,
We just wanted to let everyone know we are running a new SlikStik graphics contest in our Forums (http://forums.slikstik.com/index.php) If you would like to see the contest rules and prizes feel free to drop by our Forums (http://forums.slikstik.com/index.php).
On a different note, from the overwhelming response to our poll (the addition of DOT up & down functionality to the Tornado spinner) we are going forward with making it happen.
Our prototype is already in the works and while I can

Sounds cool. Currious... are you going to make the up/down: vertical
- or...
pivot in the center up/down. (simular to a 2way shifter) I had the pivotal idea long ago... but some purist thought it wouldnt be a good idea... so i never tried it.
-
The shifter idea, although interesting sounding, seems like it would not be very natural of a control. Just my 2

Thank goodness, that marquee you have really stinks! Good job on the rest of your great products though!
-
I'm willing to bet the new spinner will be designed so the whole shabang will move up and down, similar to a design I had in mind a couple of months ago...
hmmm, should have patented that idea

So it's method is completely different from Oscars? Seems a lot like follow-the-leader to me. I'd rather see new, innovative products than just doing what another company already does.
just my $.02

Sweeet!!!!Cant wait to order mine.

There's nothing wrong with competition, if it wasn't for competition we would all still be using DOS.
I personally, would like to have a choice between different products.

I agree with this. It is in times of ultimate competiton (wartime) that we usually get our most innovative and improved products. If it wasn't for competition, none of us would even like video games in the first place!! :)

I'm in for one.
PM me when they are available.

Cool! New products are always welcome if you ask me. I like Oscar's product line a lot, but there's nothing wrong with some healthy competition :)
-
This topic is about the contest, you could all enter it and win a free one, then you wouldn't have to worry about buying the new item.... and I could get a cooler marquee than they currently have... ;)

How do you submit a 50meg psd document?

SirPoonga,
I revised the requirements, here is the info;
8.) Regarding all completed marquees, contestants must take a scaled down snapshot of the image in either jpeg, gif or bmp format and upload it to this forum along with their submission post. Once the winning marquee is chosen we will contact the winner to retrieve the full sized version.

Innovative would be a spinner that uses hall effect insted of optics and incoder wheels.
-
I don't think CitzFish has seen the video review. Do a search on google for kevsteele spinner video review (or on here).

Out of curiosity, what does the current marquee look like? I don't see it anywhere on the site.

Innovative is a spinner made from an old hard drive! ;D

I tried and this is the only thread that shows up.
I have seen the MAME spinner round-up video. Is that the one you're referring to?

Whoo now that's right!! I am now making a spinner from a capstan motor from a Digital betacam machine.

Right, so you know slikstik's spinners are different.

This is ludicrous. It was an insult. Not only that, but you meant it as an insult.
It's also really comical. I get the impression that simply because in the past there has been a case or two where Oscar legitimately deserved people standing up and saying, "Hey man, that ain't right," that you just have your Slikstik radar set so that you can steer anything Christian says into a Slikstik/Oscar battle. The ironic thing is, Oscar is probably shaking his head right about now.
Here's something, Oscar makes an up/down spinner that I can't put on my panel due to lack of space. In fact, as much as I admire his products and particularly his character, none of his spinners will fit on my panel. Are USB flash memory disks lame because essentially they do the same thing as hard disks or Zip disks? Would you say that someone who came out with a great new bra is wasting their time because it's of no use to you? Do you consider the possibility that just because an innovation does not directly affect you that it might still be a significant innovation. I, and a lot of other people who responded to the poll very enthusiastically intend to buy one of these spinners. Ask yourself two questions:
1- If Oscar came out with a new, smaller design for a DOT spinner would you recieve the news with the same contempt, and
2- Did Oscar invent the up/down spinner?
The classy thing to do would be to apologize, rather than pretend that you didn't mean it as an insult when there was clearly no other way to mean it.

Right, we've had enough SlikStik vs Oscar debates. They are both good at what they do.
Saying why reinvent the mouse trap in this case is like saying mame shouldn't have neogeo because kawaks, neoragex, and nebula do it (and better btw). just let it be.
