Hello there! I was wondering how could I connect or soldered a potentiometer to a USB encoder.
These are the components I have.

I was testing it out, but I can't manage to get the rotation to work properly. I just simply connected the cable and put the red and black on the left and right pins. Then, I connected another cable into the one of the AU, AU, AR,AL (they are the directions). The problem is that since the cable has two wires, I'm not sure how it should work. I tried with the black wire and it did worked, but the crosshair stay on that direction only. I couldn't control it into that direction.
So, what I want is to be able to control only the X axis. Left and right, but be able to rotate the potentiometer and make the crosshair follow that direction slow or fast.

Someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe the ZD encoder is for buttons/joysticks (i.e. microswitches) only.
For analog devices like pots you want something like the APAC: https://www.ultimarc.com/control-interfaces/a-pac/a-pac/

Yes on the APAC. You're going to need an analog encoder. Yes, the ZD will only pass switches.
I just finished wiring up a pot in a gas pedal to a Teensy. https://www.pjrc.com/store/teensy.html
It sounds like you want a spinner though, what game are you working on? Discs of Tron is my guess.
Nuclear

Yes, I do want something that spins. I want it for racing games specifically.

Thank you! I think that makes more sense.

So, using the analog encoder, how would I connect the potentiometer? I have never worked with a pot before, so this is new. Like I previously said. I want to rotate in the X axis only.
Also, what is the difference between A-PAC and I-PAC? I thought these things were a bit cheaper.
