Hey guys,
I'm undermounting all my sticks, fwiw and this is specifically the mini-grip from Ultimarc/GGG (pretty sure they're the same stick).
My question specifically is, is it better to disassemble the top half (grip casing and buttons) and slide the shaft up through the hole, or to disassemble the bottom half and slide it down? (That's what she said)
My gut tells me to take the top half apart and slide it up, but the microswitches will have to be disassembled to fit through the hole, and I didn't know if anyone had an issue reconnecting the buttons afterwards.
Thanks in advance!

Take the top joystick section apart. It's only like 4 or 5 screws. The hardest part is angling the microswitches to get the dust cover to fit over them. Then you go bottom up.

The best way is not to. A flight stick has no business on a multi-game control panel.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking as well. Thanks!

You do realize that when someone asks a specific question, and you just express your own opinion contrary to someone else's build... that you are of zero help, correct? :)
But I get it, this is an internet forum. You are free to express your opinion whether it's useful to anyone or not.

He was trying to help you.
The fact that you don't like his advice does not diminish the fact that he was trying to be helpful.
You can feel free to disregard any advice that is not helpful to you without being a dick about it.

If you honestly believe that it's helpful to tell someone not to do something that he clearly has already done...just because he doesn't like it..., then we can agree to disagree.
I wasn't trying to be a dick... not sure if you were or not.

I know Howard. He cares about this stuff.
You comment was ---smurfy--- and you know it. At least own that much.
Howard has been doing this a long time.
This is one reason that a lot of the old timers don't bother to try to help people around here anymore.

What he said.
I'm just trying to save you from the 5 or so control panel revisions I did on my mame cab over the years until I ultimately realized that regular sticks and buttons are all you really need.... the other stuff just doesn't get enough use to warrant compromising the ergonomics of ones layout to go full frakenpanel. This isn't an experience unique to me btw.... look at all the old timers' cabs and they are mostly just sticks and buttons. When you start doing crazy control panel configurations it'll end up being easier to start buying dedicated cabs, which I realize isn't for everyone but it is the best way to do it.
