Title: Trackball for a Golden Tee
Post by: dcsportsfan on April 29, 2020, 10:39:12 am
Hello all,

I am having issues with the trackball on a Golden Tee Classic (not the home edition). I have read in other post and have done a good bit of trouble shooting before I decided to post this question. First of all I purchased this as a rehab project to add to my home collection I had to purchase a new power supply but otherwise everything appeared in great shape. Now that the game is on everything is working other than when you roll the ball left or right to select a game or change clubs. Per other post I have done the following...

1. taken apart and cleaned the trackball itself
2. checked all of the ground wires (2 green) to insure it is properly grounded
3. unplugged the harness that is used for the left right moment and plugged it into the forward back pins and it reacted as it should.
4. no of this worked, I had an addition trackball (Happ) from another Golden Tee, I plugged that one in and still no left to right movement.
5. use a new wiring harness from a unused MAME cabinet for a trackball with the exact same wiring colors and configuration with no solder joints

I am at the end of this rope and need some pointers and any would be greatly appreciated

Your pcb has issues, You can use any golden tee from 3d thru Classic in the cab.

I have a Golden Tee cab with 3d, 97, 99 and World Class Bowling mounted, and I just swap the cables to change games.

If you keep your eyes open, they sometimes go cheap on ebay.
One guy has a Classic and 2k for under $100 shipped.

(Or if you are good at surface mount soldering, try swapping the chips between the player 1 and player 2 inputs.)

Thank you dabone, I figured it was going to come down to that. I am good at soldering, but when you say swapping 1 & 2 are you talking where the harness connects to the board (the pins)?

Yeah, I would think that you might have a bad counter. These are the 169 chips, and there are 2 per input.

A scope would be best to check the difference in the way p1 and p2 are working, or you could just shotgun by taking the p2 169s and mounting them in the p1 locations.

Now this is just guess work from working on other trackball/encoder games.
