Title: Good PC specs for GroovyArcade?
Post by: arfink on March 15, 2020, 01:51:06 pm
Is there a generally accepted "good enough" PC spec for doing GroovyArcade? As a reference, I plan on running mostly systems up to Neo Geo vintage, with some of the harder games I'd like to run including Ray Storm and STV stuff. Is it mostly bound to single-core performance, or will multiple cores/threads actually make a noticeable difference?

It's more important single core performance. I recommend you Intel processor or Ryzen 3xxx. A high clocked I3 or Gxxxx must be enough.

All, but Muchi Muchi Pork, Zeus hardware and the most demanding Vegas hardware games, ran 100% speed without hiccups on my G3258 overclocked to 4.8Ghz with only one core enabled.

With the recent optimizations of the cave1k core I think Muchi Muchi Pork will work full speed as well.

So, yeah, go for the cheapest, lowest core, highest clock processor you can find.

At the same time https://wiki.mamedev.org/index.php/FAQ:Performance#Does_MAME_benefit_from_SMP_.28symmetric_multiprocessing.29_.2F_HT_.28Hyper-Threading.29_.2F_dual_cores.3F

So I guess frequency just made it up, but mame benefits from multiple cores
