Hello,
I have since yesterday a dedicated cabinet.
I would like to hear your opinion.
Do a full restoration or keep it original.
The game works good.
Only thing that is missing are the levelers.
I am from Europe, and getting parts could be a problem I think?
What do you guys/girls think I should do?

My personal philosophy is to restore so that it looks nice/new but keep as much of the original parts/artwork in place..
Which is a blurry line to walk.. There have been enough old machines that were chopped up or painted over..
A clean and refresh is my goal.. but not necessarily a museum quality restoration where you don't want it touched..
Not sure if that helps..
-
It is beautiful just the way it is. Do you have the glass bezel somewhere?
If you don't, then you should track one down and slap it on there.
-
That cab is a long way from home and is in nice condition for its age, You are probibally already the envy of all your friends...I would just wipe it down with an automotive grade cleaner/sealer such as Maguires #6 to protect and seal the paint, And if you want to work on it consider a rebuild the electrical side of it.
-
Thank you for your opinion
I also have the bezel, but I think it's a repro because it's plexi, but the art is printed on it and not a sticker.
I agree with bperkins that it would be nice to make a sleek, beautiful cabinet. but then it is no longer original.
I think I am trying the cleaner / sealer.
it works well, only the monitor shows vertical synchronization problems.
I will try to adjust it so that the image is still.
here in europe it is difficult to find parts of specific machines.
my first problem are the 4 levelers, the cabinet is now on the wood: - \
the bolts have a different threaded end.
sorry for the poor english, it is not my native language.
cheers Ger

In de evening, i made some time to do a little bit of electronic cleaning.
also did a good clean, with wax like Jennifer said.
it is offcourse not like new, but its a cabinet with history of 42 years.
4 things i need to figure out;
where to get the levels (do not know if thats the correct word) its a kind of bolt where the cabinet rest on the ground.
the image on the screen is flickering. i dont know how to adust this.
the savety switch works not good. push in (cabinet close) the cabinet goes off.
savety pull out, it goes also off.
and in normal mode (cabinet backdoor open) the cabinets play ?
and i notice some (looks like oil) on the monitor transformator.
i looked also at some youtube movies about this machine,
TNT Amusements Inc (todd) is telling to replace the power supply to get a good nice clean voltage.
i am the kind of guy, if it works. dont touch it. or does he have a point? and must i replace the powersupply?
i hope you guys/girls can help me.

It sounds like she is tired, That oil on the coil is a bad sign, it it leaking voltage, and the chassis needs to be rebuilt, it's not hard or expensive but it is high voltage, and quite dangerous,( I would leave the machine off until that is addressed)...Jenn would start there on that machine, read up on safety, and threads that talk about flybacks and cap kits, and buy a good voltmeter (not a cheap one but some quality) and a solder gun and maybe some old junk boards to practice on...TNT guy is not wrong about the power supply, there are 2 of them on that machine actually, and they will be next to go, but one thing at a time.
-
Hello Jennifer,
Thank you for your answers.
I know about the dangerous voltage.
I have good gear to replace parts.
Only problem is. I don’t know where to buy the parts.
Cleaning the monitor will not do the trick?
I need also a new monitor?
And can you tell me something about the scrambled syncing problem. How to adjust this?
Also I have a cocktail with original tv and harnas, and some hanterex chassis and tubes.
I would like to help others with that.
Is this forum a place to offer it to other arcade lovers? I can ship, but overseas is a problem i think.
-
No your monitor is most likely good, you can wash it once you have it out, But your problem now is that flyback (leaky oil thing) is losing voltage to drive the monitor, and again high voltage, I would not even turn it on at this point...You need to short out the anode, and remove the chassis, if you remove the monitor too be really careful with the neck, it is the weakest part and will break easily, and there is no fix for that, Your sync problem most likely fix itself with a rebuild...I dont know what your choices for parts are there, but I would think your going to be getting some boxes from the states very soon...Jenn has 2 of those cabs, The parts (flyback, and transistor) came to around 80.00us, and the caps were around another 70.00 but they were not a kit, they were hand picked high temp caps (a kit would be cheaper) but still shipping might be more issue for you with that VAT thing.
-
Thank you again!
I noticed a weak connection on the power supply.
I think this can also be a problem.
So need to find that connector, or build it with a standard power supply, and reconnect like tnt does.
Tonight I will try to find a carkit and the parts to rebuild the chassis.
I allready unwire the tube and chassis.
Strange i did not hear a click when i did a screwdriver with connect the chassis.
To be continued.
Cheers

Hello, I have searched for almost hours and hours.
I can not find a donor or new flyback for the Motorola
I have seen some YouTube where the put silicone or glue on the flyback.
Is this some solution for me do you think?
I made a picture.
For silicone or epoxy the purple arrow
And I wonder if the yellow arrow is a no go. to try this because it looks some plastic is broken.
What do you guys think?
Also looking for a 20 pins connector on the power board. Those pins are broken (some of them) so a solution to that problem can be the TNT power supply option.
But I would love to keep it original
Cheers Ger.
Ps Scott thanks for the “pop” message
Everyday i learn more and more.
-
Yesterday I could save the original 20 pin connector. So that’s all good.
Also the voltage are good and clean.
The main power supply is now also clean.
I did a voltage check on the b+ of the chassis. It’s 70 volt and not 73. So now I have to figure out where to adjust this.

Hi there all,
i realy need some help or advice.
my Montorola kv700 a is not good.
i did a recap, and the sync is still not good.
like jennifer said, i need a new flyback, but in europe we can not get this parts anymore.
i really love to keep it original, but i think there is only 1 solution.
an other monitor :( can you guys/girls tell me what a good replacement could be?
also strange imo the monitor is placed horizontal, while it is a vertical game?
the cardboard makes the bezel so you look at a vertical game. is this original?
is this why its a 23 inch? could i do a 19 inch vertical?
i hope you can help me. i really want to shoot those space invaders on a steady image:D
cheers,
Ger
ps is this the good subforum? or must i replace it to monitors/video?
-
Your monitor is a Motorola M7000 if it is a 23 inch tube and a M5000 if it is a 19 inch tube.
I did a bit of digging. kv700 is some other number that is confusing for ID purposes.
How is the video signal connected to the monitor? Can we see some pics?
How have you tried adjusting the horizontal hold?
Maybe someone mounted the monitor horizontally and then tried to make it work with some hacky wiring.
You might want to try posting on KLOV.com as well.
Are there weird Space Invaders bootlegs that are horizontal instead of vertical?
It would be nice if someone smarter than me would chime in.
Also, I don't think you are going to have any luck getting a flyback for that monitor. The only source would be another M7000 monitor.
-
Hai Mike,
thank you for you reply!
all the wiring looks original. but thats taken from the eye.
What kind of photo's do you want? if can make some if you want.
also can make a little movie (dont know how to upload here)
i dont doubt your smartness;)
where can i find the horizontal hold?
ps the B+ is okay, en so is the 5,12 and -5 volt
-
You might not doubt my smartness, but I don't have the background in electronics or the experience a lot of these guys and girls have.
I need to lookup the Space Invaders pinout and the m7000 monitor manual. I have zero experience with Space Invaders.
It doesn't seem original because the monitor is the wrong orientation and it is the wrong size. I think it should be an m5000 in there.
I need to dig because that could all be totally normal, it just doesn't sound right.
-
okay,
i will wait. it is also my believe it is strange, but it can be normal?
cheers, and thank you allready for you support
-

Original was a 19" according to page 6 of the manual here (https://www.arcade-museum.com/manuals-videogames/S/Space%20Invaders%20Upright%20%20Midway.pdf).
Not sure precisely which type of 19" monitor was originally in your cab. :dunno
Over 15 years ago, Ken Layton posted about Space Invaders monitors here (https://www.electronicspoint.com/forums/threads/space-invaders-flyback-transformer.53622/).
Most Space Invaders had Wells-Gardner 19V1001 or 19V1003 model
monitors in them. Apparently you have a low serial number cabinet
indicating you have a Motorola M5000 series black & white monitor.
Manuals for this and mny other models are available to download free
at www.mikesarcade.com (click on 'monitor manuals').
Scott
-
Yeah. The Space invaders manual has the M5000 listed, but also has a WG schematic thrown in at the end.
-
Hello,
i made a little movie, its a 23 inch horizontal placed.
how can i upload this to let you guys see?
cheers,
ger
-
how can i upload this to let you guys see?
You can upload it here in a .zip, .rar, or .7z file if the compressed file is less than 4096KB.
Otherwise, upload it to either a video sharing site like YouTube or Vimeo or a file sharing site like Mega or sendspace (https://www.sendspace.com).
Scott
-
i hope you can see the video
-
Yes. That video works.
-
I think you should post this on KLOV.com. There is a lot going on here.
You have the wrong sized monitor mounted in the wrong orientation.
The video should be displaying in vertical, but it is displaying horizontally. :dunno
-
Okay thank you.
I will go to klov.
And hope someone can help me
-
I will look into it some more, but you will get more eyes on it over there.
-
Today I removed the monitor.
I can tell this is not original mounted.
So I am afraid I must go for a 19 inch with composite
At klov I could not do a donation. Site was under construction.
I try tomorrow.
Cheers. (https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20200516/d0b1d6e7d3d35c3f8baae8c8d9b7eff0.jpg)

Today. I have scored a black white monitor.
Input is bnc. So i hope I can use this pretty lady
Only thing to figure out is. How to get a image in mirror

Oh boy.
I hope you really can help me.
The lady smell and gets hot and made a “poef” sound
I almost cry. I thought to make my space invader complete. But now the Phillips monitor is gone.
On the power unit a stiff kind of resistor (I think) gets so hot, you can see it getting red.
Please guys can you help me out?

After 20 seconds.
I did turn the power off.
I still have orange on the tube.
But no image
-
Must I ask this in a other subforum?
Cheers,
Ger
-
Today I finally solved the headache about te monitor.
I found a nice set and took the composite. And it looks good.
Change some wires from the yoke for mirror or flip the screen.
A very happy man is here
Thank you all for the support.
Next week i will shoot some pictures for the forum.
Next project is building my test/supergun what is already 30% done.
Cheers
Ger
Other quick question; is it for USA interesting to buy from Europe?
I have some chassis and monitors and pcb boards and Suzo happ joysticks for Qbert.
Or is shipment and customs to much?
Here in Europe the don’t give a s... for this good stuff. (The idiots
)
-
Glad you got it sorted out.
