I have a 1978 R82 Woodhue Jukebox which I am having problems with the amp. The amp is an R 2179A. The music was playing great the other night then the music started to distort like a car radio going out of range.
I pulled the amp out today to see if anything was wrong visibly. I pulled each fuse out to visually check and they were all fine. While I had the board out I rotated each control knob a few times as I noticed the bass was a bit touchy. I was told they were prone to corrosion at the base. I re installed the amp correctly and now I have no sound. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Cheers

Rowe amplifiers develop bad solder joints at the connectors on all the pc boards.
Did you remember to plug in ALL of the connectors/cables?

Hi Ken, yes checked connections 3 times. All went in but not a snug fit. Sort of like a hot knife into butter. Bit sloppy. Would this be a problem?

I think Ken may be feeling poorly at the moment (hope not, And feeling better)...Those connectors have like a insertion rate of something like 22 times, after that the plating gives out and they become quite unreliable, and given the age of the machine probibally towards the end of that cycle, replacing them would certainly not hurt, However you can do a continuity test through the connector. (Although if you wiggle it under test you will most likely get some pretty random readings)

What ultimately happens with a loose connector is it only is making contact at a specific point on the pin, and depending on the draw it will start to burn up the pin.
