yup, my showcase cab is now underway.

-
Holy crap! I didn't realize you were this close to construction! That CP is going to be Mamestrositastical! :o :o :o
-
yes it will indeed be "mamestrostastical"....very nicely put. well it looks like im almost done constructing or whatever, but these pics are decieving. see ill probably get a lot of cutting done today, but im sure i wont get all of it, im positive i wont. ill just have to wait for another day off....and the weather has to be good....and i have to not be doing anything else. as of right now my weekends are shot cuz my fiance lives about 2 hours away, so i go see her or she comes to see me every weekend, meaning no arcade stuff on the weekends. see my problem??? ::) so ill get as much done as i can, and then for the next few weeks, ill be sanding and painting and assembling...that kind of thing.
-
well this is the front obviously. i stopped cutting and stuff around 3 today, i got tired ::) but this is basically what i got done. i know it doesnt seem like much, but i measured many times to make sure the cuts were right...and i still am off a little. but im guessing thats what wood putty is for. anyway, here is what i have now. im going to start measuring out what the sides of the box are supposed to be which will suck cuz i need to measure angles and all that to make sure when i use my mitre saw, that everything fits nicely. im also going to start drawing on the mdf the front part of the cp pedestal. im probably going to make it about 22 in. wide, just so it will give plenty of support for the cp. and im pretty sure i want to get the cp completely done before i start on the monitor section, which will be a beeeeeeotch, but it will be cool in the end. ANYWAY, heres pics.

one more for now....how do you like my supports?!?!
-
Looking good hulk. Now you just need to update your website.
Cheers
-cdbrown
PS - I like the name ;D
-
yeah that "website" if you want to call it that (more like page with pictures and text) is old, thats my old cab. hopefully if everything goes like i want it to, my new cab will blow it out of the water as far as professional look and craftsmanship. heres hoping. yes, i love the name as well....all credit to you on that one of course ::)
-
Nice Hulk! That is going to be quite the monstrous MAMEstrocity! ;D
-
Big and Beefy!
Looking good.

beef AND spice! (macho man voice)

Looks similar to the 4 player panel that I built.
One suggestion:
How are the players going to insert coins? As I don't see coin buttons on the panel. Since your building a 4 player panel. Each player will require their own coin button for various 4 player games to buy in or power up.
So I placed a green button beside the white player 1, 2, 3 & 4 buttons. Therefore each player will be able to credit in whenever they need too.
I'll post a picture later today so you can see what I mean.
-GGKoul
-
im going to put the coin buttons on the side panels underneath each player on the cp box itself. im trying to make my cp as clean as possible (even though theres a lot of controls) so im keeping the coin buttons on the side/front panels.
-
Here's a pic of my 4player panel. which is simaliar to what your creating.
-
very nice, very nice. im starting to make progress on my cuts, so its getting more and more exciting, and my fiance is getting more and more WATCHFUL! ::)
-
I'm going to redesign the panel for 2 reasons.
1) Plan on adding 2 rotary joysticks (which will be in the space above player 1 & 2)
2) Moving the spinner higher up from trackball. Reason being.. If your plan on playing Golden Tee, either PC or Arcade version. Make sure nothing is around on your forward swing!! As we must have hit our hands a few time on the spinner.

I'm enjoying looking at your design....and I like your podium profile so much I'm thinking I'm gonna gank the design for my own! Excellent job so far! What are you using for a screen, and what size? I was gonna use a 27" JVC TV (got it for free, Father-in-law got a big screen and gave his old one to me, alas, it crapped out about three days ago) and would like to hear what your plan is. Also, how far away will your screen be?
Keep up the good work.
-
thanks man, i appreciate the compliments! i took my design basically from several other designs. go to www.dreamauthentics.com i think thats the site, and click on the "mega" cab that they have there. they have this thing that you can see a 3d version of the cab and can rotate it, so what i did was look at that and make my design. i also look around on the net for other designs and found some other cabs, but no plans. just type in "showcase cab" or something to that effect and it will give you pics of people who have made similar makes. also, i went to the local arcade and checked out some of the cabs there that were the showcase style. i didnt measure anything cuz they would probably get mad, but i just kinda walked around it :) and looked at it.
im using a 27" tv with s-video...make sure it has s-video! and im probably going to make it like 2 feet away from the edge of the control panel (the part thats closest to the tv)
-
Id love to get plans for somethign like that mega arcade cab on the dreamauthentics site. It would be a breakthrough for all memers!
-
well i would make plans, but im by no means a master craftsman, so the measurements would be weird, and people may end up having their cuts all messed up, so id rather just tell people where i got my ideas and have them do their own thing. ::)
-
well this is a small update, but its an UPDATE nonetheless. heres what i call "ghetto clamp glue drying"
-
okay heres the latest update. ive got the box part built...well cept for the back. anyway, i forgot to drill holes for the pinball buttons and coin buttons, so ill be doing that soon. and yes it will be supported so dont worry:) all i have to do now is get my router skills going, and i was going to the other day, but my older brother (porter cable tools sales rep) said that i should wait and get somebody who knows what they are doing to help since ive never used one before. but one of my friends is going to help me cuz he knows...ANYWAY, should have my router stuff done within a week or so. and then some major construction can begin.
-

-
i couldnt wait, i had to kinda put it up and see what it looks like so far. its a little high, but im 6'3" so its not so bad for me, but im worried that its too high for my shorter friends. oh well, they can stand on a box. my next step is to route for the t-molding. so thats my next thing to do!!! enjoy the pics.

Hulk that looks fantastic! Really coming together. :o
-
hey thanks! it will look a lot cooler with that pimp ass marquee you made me. and are you still up for creating cp art for me? i remember you telling me to get dimensions to you for all the buttons and stuff, but i just want to make sure you are still up for creating that for me ?? ;D
-
Of course! ;D I'm not going to back out now ;) I've got way to much personally invested in the art, no way I'm going to see something generic go down on that one. Just fire off those dimensions when you're ready.
-
Looks damn good!

ha, i see you edited your post! i read the original fortunately....no offense taken if thats what you were worrying about :P anyway, ill try to measure the cp stuff tonight.
-
im almost finished with the monitor section but heres what i have so far. i have both speaker panels but just one of them is up right now. so here you go.

-
Really starting to come together. I'm glad you went with the cloth covering as opposed to speaker grilles. Looks like the super expensive new podium styles in the arcade. Have you thought of a marquee area yet? Or are you leaving that out?
-
thanks for the reply! yeah, im glad i went with the speaker cloth as well. it looks really good mounted up to the front.
as for the marquee part, that will probably be the next thing i build. i was going to build that yesterday after work, but i was moving some stuff around (wearing sandals)....and do you see the empty back part of the monitor section?? well theres a big piece of mdf that goes over that section that was holding up and seeing how well it fits, but it slipped out of my hands...and the corner fell on my right big toe. yup, hurt a whoooooooole lot. i posted that in the Everything Else board :) so production halted as of yesterday, but i will probably do more work tonight...only i probably wont be able to do any cutting since its supposed to thunderstorm all day >:(
anyway, im debating on whether or not to do just a regular marquee box shape, or make the front a box shape and leave the back slanted. that would look cool, but it would make mounting a backlight a little more of a pain. what do you think?
i also have to build the connector portion between the cp and the monitor section.
-
Looking good ;)
-
Make it a box shape doesn't necessarily have to slope down in the back but, make the front edge curved just like your monitor box. Then you can mount the back light similiary to the way mine is, or simply bolt it to the bottom of the box. The plexiglass on mine is curved. There is simply a slot routed running along the curved edge.
-
hmmm...i never thought about mounting it to the bottom of the box, or top of the monitor section. do you have a showcase cab? if so, post pics!!! i would like to see your marquee box.
-
i guess anybody can help with this, but in regards to my marquee box...what would be the best way to hold the plexi and marquee in? i know a lot of people use the happ marquee retainer, but that is for the upright cab and it has something to latch onto. what would be the best way for me to hold a marquee/plexi in, with the box sitting on top of the monitor section....check out the pics earlier in the post if you dont know what im talking about. thanks for any help.
-
WOW! .... thats going to being a killer setup :)
Are you going to use a monitor or TV?
... and for the speakers ... HTS or the Happ's style speakers behind the speaker cloth?
-
27" tv with svideo for the monitor. and im using only a 2 speaker setup....surround sound isnt really necessary, even if i have a big cab. so im using a 2.1 from creative.
i need ideas for the marquee box still though ::)
but thanks for the reply!
-
Black...marble...c-contact...paper...
Dear god no! Not another one!!!
WHY!!!!!!!!!!!!
Dude you should commission one of the guys here to do you some fancy artworkin's for your CP. There's no reason to protect marble contact paper IMHO.
-
um....huh? im not using contact paper, nor did i ever mention using contact paper...sooooo....what the hell are you talking about? if you are referring to my first cab, i used contact paper for that, but this is my new cab....hence the new dates.
-
Its a "marble contact paper joke" hulkman. ;)
Not many people get it(hey I did)
-
its been a while since i posted some pics, but as you can see ive made a lot of progress. so much in fact that i will be finished probably in about 3 days! yup. anyway, here are some pics of what i have so far.

I'm diggin' it. That's a badass font and the CP is nice and simple. What are your js and button colors?
-
im using black and blue buttons, with white start buttons....cuz i didnt get in on the black start buttons ::) but i think since part of the marquee is white, it will look decent. im gonna mix and match the blue and black buttons though to see what i like best. i made a template of what i wanted a long time ago but now i cant find it!
-
heres the cp art applied. looks pretty good, cept theres one thing....apparently the mounting plate for the trackball isnt as flush as it looks >:( >:( so you can see a little square outline and you can feel it a little if you rub over it. its nit picky, but i paid a lot for the art and i wanted it to be perfect....oh well. anyway, what do you guys think?
oh and by the way, yes i have a light underneath the trackball for the cool glow...but i have yet to hook it up to the power supply...that will be very soon though!
-
That rocks man. Good work!
-
That is a fantastic cab, and the CP art and Marquee that Pixelhugger designed is first rate...really is coming together nicely. :)
-
WoW!!!
The CP looks real good!! Pixel's artwork looks real good!!
Great Job!

thanks for the responses! i was making a lot of progress last night but.....i was cutting some t molding with a box cutter, and.....yup you guessed it, right through the t molding and straight into my calf. boom. it didnt hurt, but man did it bleed. now its all over my moms carpet! she bought this cheap imitation rip off of oxy clean, but its called Emmacu-10 and it looked like it was working last night, but this morning, it basically just smeared it around a lot. anyway, im working on it more tonight after work, and i should be able to get the bezel, plexi glass cover for the monitor, and rest of the wiring done! ill post more pics tonight.
-
I love the marquee. Things look great. I can't wait to see it completely assembled.
-
Nice work Hulk. Love how the color scheme is coming together with those blue buttons! That's gonna be one impressive cab. Can hardly wait to see the final pics. Seeing the art somewhere other than on my screen feels like I'm looking at photos of my child gone off to college... all grown up and in a new environment. Sniff sniff
-
Sharp looking control panel , very nice work.

"when i was a child i made art as a child, when i became a man, i put away childish marquee's and cpo's and let pixelhugger do the work for me!" ;D
-
are your coin door plungers blue?
-
Definately blue, where did you get those?
-
yes they are indeed blue! im trying to stay with the color scheme. but i got those from happcontrols.com. i think it was in the coin door section (imagine that) and its in there somewhere, you just gotta find it. they have yellow and red and all kinds of stuff.
-
Nice, only problem with happs is that if I ordered new plungers from them, it'd probably cost me more than what I payed for the entire coin door :-\
-
yeah happs is very pricey, but these werent too bad. of course i think the shipping was more than the actual part! not sure about that, but thats a likely possibility.
-
okay i took a few pics of what i have so far. i put the lexan in for the monitor cover. the wiring is mostly done, and i got the blue led underneath the trackball....i just have to figure out how to mount it right. its one of those led cannon things, and it looks good when pointed in the right direction. the speakers are in, and the speaker panels are up obviously. the light behind the marquee i know...is very weak, but that will have to wait a while. i still have a few other things to complete on the middle part as you can see, and i also have to make the bezel. im kinda scared on doing that, well not scared, just not wanting to do it more likely :) but let me know what you guys think of it so far!

I think it looks great! I am really impressed that you were able to put it together so well, and I love the artwork. How big is the TV you're using? That would be the only thing I wonder about. I'm sure it will look perfect when it's 100% complete and in its final form but right now it looks a little small. The Mega's design on mameroom.com has a 33" screen and I think that's a good size at a minimum since the monitor is off of the cp. I'd get a huge tv screen if possible.
-
its a 27" tv and the reason i used it is because it was free! i know it looks small, but i built the top section so that the the distance between the top and bottom to the screen itself is five inches. so once i create the bezel, the top and bottom pieces will be 5" x 27". understand? anyway, the screen will look centered and wont look so small. however this is a big step up from my 19" computer monitor on my first cab ;D
-
Oh god.... I can't believe you destroyed classic multidensity fiber board for this mame machine! Now there will never ever be fiber bo....
oh....
wait....
wrong thread. Looks good hulkster, your effort really shows! can't wait to see it with a bezel!
no hard feelings! ;D
-
haha, very nice. i did destroy some original mdf that would have looked great with custom art. ;D
-
This project looks better each and every day. Keep it up!
-
For reference, showcase cabinets typically use a 33" screen. I like this, though. It looks very good. Where did you get the plans for it?
-
He examined the Showcase at dreamauthentics.com. They have a 3D model of one and he went to work. Really good job IMHO!
-
Oh god.... I can't believe you destroyed classic multidensity fiber board for this mame machine! Now there will never ever be fiber bo....
MEDIUM Density Fibreboard.
Fibreboard that can morph between multiple densities would indeed be rare! ;)
-

yeah no plans on this one. i just looked around the internet and found pictures of other showcase cabs, and just kinda looked at them real close. i went to dreamauthentics.com and they had this rotating picture that you can use to see what the mega cab will look like (only $5000!!) and i just looked at the sides and started drawing on mdf. i also went to my local arcade and stood by them to see what the height was so i could estimate what a good height would be for this cp. and for the monitor, sometimes i would just sit and stare at the mdf to think in my mind how i want this to look....and i went from there. it came out really cool....and pretty good for no plans or really anything to go by since not many people build these types of cabs. my fiance came to see it and she walked and in said she was really impressed....thats a big sigh of relief...i thought she would be pissed that i built something so big. but she wasnt, all is well ;D

Your work is extremely impressive! I hope to try doing a showcase once I get my first cabinet built. You've done an awesome job!
-
thanks man. really appreciate the comments! i still have to put in the bezel and all that, but its getting really close to completion!
-
Fibreboard that can morph between multiple densities would indeed be rare! ;)
::AmericanDemon locks his woodshed::
You didn't see nothin! got that? ;)
-
Looks great but since your not putting a 33" monitor in it why build such a huge cab?
Gary
-
33" is the standard, but 27" is plenty big in my opinion. whenever i get around to putting the bezel in, it will look a lot better.
-
You wouldn't happen to have a file with the dimensions for that CP would you?
I'm planning on a large 4 player CP, and your layout is pretty much exactly what I'm planning.
-
no i dont. i didnt really create a layout or plans or anything, i just built it. i know that sounds weird, but i guess everybody has to start somewhere. although i was inspired by TalkingOctopus's cab and cp. if you like my 4 player setup, you will definitely like his. its on an upright cab, so the joysticks and players are squeezed in a little more than mine. dont have a link, but google for "talking octopus mame" and youll probably find it.
-
Whoa!!! This is the first time I've checked this out Hulkster and I must say this thing looks awesome!!!! I can't wait tot see it finished. I love the artwork by Pixel.
-
thanks man....i just put the bezel in, so all i have to do now is to put the leds in the coin door and ill be good to go. oh and the light for the marquee needs to be done, but thats not imperative at the moment ::)
-
more more more pics!!! i put the bezel in and it looks good. and as you can see, ive done a little work on the background for mamewah. its just pixels marquee background with some of those boxes that i made myself in photoshop. here are some closeups and stuff! enjoy.

Space for several people to play, better viewing for each player, he likes the setup....he's probably got more reasons, but if he's got the space, why not build what ya want?
Hulkster, forget the cabinet, where'd you get those Porter Cable stools?! Me likey! You know someone at Home Depot or were they a teaser in a tool you bought? I'd like a nice DeWalt set of those, but yours will do, as well. Make wit' da info ;D
-
Hulkster.. Great Work!!
Question.. what did you make your bezel out of?? Cardboard paper??
Thanks!
-GGKoul
-
the porter cable stools were given to me by my older brother. hes a division sales manager for the south and he says that they give away really nice shop stools at home depots all the time to customers walking in! but he had like 20 in his garage, and so he just gave me 2 of them for free. so you might ask the people at home depot if they have any spare laying around.....dunno its worth a shot....they are really and sturdy too.
for the bezel, i just went to the local craft store and bought some black cardboard. simple as that. i didnt do the bezel that the one guy on this board posted a tutorial for, i just kinda cut some cardboard out and taped it to the tv. yeah its ghetto, but no one will get close enough to notice...and even then you cant really notice.
-
Did you ever fix your wobble on your CP? If so, how?
-
no not really. i put a crap load of weights in the bottom of the cp and it still wobbles some. however, after talking with one of the guys on this board over a beer(always brings out intelligent thoughts)....he works at a furniture place and he said that the levelers that i have should i work, but i will have to unscrew and stuff and shift the weight to one side and then find out what is best. but im going to try that soon...crossing fingers.
-
Well, either way, that's an impressive cab. You did a good job. Time to celebrate with some inebriated 4 player gaming action.
-
well here is some sad news....i was talking with my fiance today and i asked her opinion of whether or not we should bring the cab in the new apartment and she said no at the beginning of course. well i told myself at the beginning before i started building that if our apartment was too small to hold the cab and it still look like its not taking over the whole place, then i will put it in...otherwise ill just leave it at my moms house until i get another house. yeah it sucks, but there is still a little hope. im going to put my desk in the spare bedroom, and if there is still room, i could possibly see it in there, but i dont want a crowded/messy looking apartment. oh well....
-
Very nicely done hulkman good job ! :)
What exactly are you using as the speaker covering ?
Is it like metal grill or... ???
Also, not diggin the ghetto bezel, invest on happs 27" one.THEN it will be 100% complete, you will thank me later for the suggestion 8)
-
ghetto = 3 bucks. how much is the happ one? oh and for the speaker covering i just bought some "speaker cloth" from a website, it looks and feels just like fabric. and i just stapled it to the wood from the other side. and thats it!
-
Fantastic work Hulk...
You plan on making your plans available?
-
well in order for me to make them available id have to have some plans in the first place! 8) if there is enough demand, i might be able to make some plans....but that has yet to be seen :P
-

Heh, now you have a perfect excuse to build a small cocktail cab!
-
i dont think you understand how much that would NOT fly with my fiance....but if we ever get a bigger place and i start making a lot more money...its possible ::)
-
Hulkster, what a tremendous project and great looking cab. Hopefully all will go well and you can fit it in your new place :)

hmmm, not so much down with the whole keep the cab, dump the chick. arcades and games are cool and all, but nothing beats(no i wont go there) a good woman by your side (when she's not nagging).

...a good woman by your side (when she's not nagging).
Where can a guy find such a creature? I've heard of such things, but always assumed that was one of those fairy tales, like the Three Pigs or The Tortoise and the Hare....did you see one of those in LOTR or something? I'm really intrigued now! Will that be your next project, to build this mythical creature? I know I'd DEFINITELY pay tall cash for plans on THAT!
-
Thats a great looking cab, i love the over all theme to it...
If i had something like that i know i'd waste away playing it all day. Hope you can take it with you.

Great job Hulkster, glad to see you finish it.

Very Clean and well put together. It gas been coll seeing your project come to be since the first post with the little picture.

ha yeah, its been crazy. i started with a few sheets of mdf, and now i compare pictures. ive impressed myself as well as many others who come and see it.

Nice. I like it. ;D

hey guys im back....couldnt stay away too long. got married, moved into the apartment and finally got the internet. however, my cab is kinda too big for the apt....still working on that though ;D anyway, i dont have any plans or anything as of yet. it might be a while before i ever get around to making them too. however, id be glad to answer any questions for those of you wanting to know how to make it, etc. drop me a line and ill answer the best i can.
**as a side note, my arcade is at my moms basement right now. and she had some maintenence guys come over to work on her air conditioning vents or something and they had to go down to the basement through the garage and she said when they walked in and saw my cab they said "OH MAN!! THATS THE COOLEST THING IVE EVER SEEN! GENIOUS!" aaaa...that makes it all worth it. 8)

Hmmm... Just read this thread. I'm sure I didn't post this to this thread. Perhaps the forum software was having a bad day when I posted that. Anyway, looks great!
EDIT:
Ok, I'm pretty sure I wasn't on crack or anything when I posted that. Anyway, I still think black marble contact paper is just too tacky.

well i have some great news! my older brother and his wife and kids came into town and we took the kids to chuck e. cheese's (man that place has changed!). anyway, we are sitting there eating greasy pizza when my brother asks me about the arcade machine and i say "yeah im just gonna have to wait till we get a house for me to have the arcade nearby". and my wife says "well, we can try to put it in the apartment" YES!!! so you guessed it, we left a little early per my request and loaded up the whole thing and moved it from my moms basement to my apartment! it fits nicely and will not be in the way too much. anyway, i just thought i would share my joy. ;D

SWEET News ! You owe her big time now.

edit: oh and one more thing, as of this friday i'll have dsl in my apartment which comes with 10mb of web space! so ill be making a website soon ;D ill keep everyone who cares posted.
-
PICTURES!!!!
heh, get them up quick, your cab is great and I'd like to see it in its new home.
-
Hey hulkster,
Your cabinet is absolutely stunning. I just wish us lot in the UK had basements so that us thirtysomethings cold have a gamesroom ::)
-
pointdablame- thanks for the compliment! always appreciated. and yeah ill get pics up real soon. last night i put the pc in and got it all back up and running so that was good....didnt think anything would be messed up, but you never know. once i put the bezel in ill take a few pics and post them.
boyowilkins- hey you dont have to have a basement! mine is a 2 bedroom apartment! i just put it in the corner next to my desk in the spare bedroom. the only hard part is convincing your significant other to let you do it!

okay, heres the page. no i havent done the plans yet, because i left my tape measure over at my moms house! argh! so youll have to wait (for anyone thats waiting) on those. the page is sorta done...i still have to upload some of the downloads and link that section, as well as get some useful links in there, but the documented part is done for the most part. i know the page kinda sucks, but i formatted my pc and forgot to backup my copy of photoshop so no crazy graphics or anything on this one...cept for the ones pixelhugger did for me 8) anyway...
first there was the Mamestrosity the Dream....
then the Mamestrosity, the cabinet.....
now the Mamesrosity the web site!!!
http://bellsouthpwp.net/d/d/ddilday13/home.html
and coming soon...the Mamestrosity the Flamethrower!!.....the kids will love it.
-
LOL.. bandwidth exceeded. Looks like your page is more popular than you anticipated.
-
hmmm...well i just accessed it no problem. but you are right, i didnt think it would be all that popular. i need to get a hit counter on there to see how much traffic im pulling in.

SWEET News ! You owe her big time now.
Dude, that is SO not the way to work your marriage. Just ask Crashwg ;)
If he owes her, then all he owes her is to let her beat him at StreetFighter or something...she knew beforehand that he was building it, so she HAD to know sooner or later it was gonna come into the house!
Anyhoo, yeah, your bandwidth has exceeded the limits...mebbe think about having Saint host your page or something...I know how it goes, now that you're done, it's the last/furthest thing from your mind. We all appreciate your posting pictures as you go along, and thanks for even thinking of measuring it off for us. Now, more foot porn, that's something we can do without ;)
p.s. Congratulations on the successful marriage. Did you remember to register @ Happs for gifts?

oh man, i thought i had registered everywhere! that would have been sweet to get joysticks instead of glassware. oh well. yeah i have like 33mb of bandwidth but im not sure if its for like the whole week or just that day. ive never really hosted a site that people go to more than i thought they would so this is new territory to me. i did the website submission thing but i havent seen my site on the examples page so i dont know what to do.

okay, so it's been a while...almost a year and a half actually. but for some reason i got motivated and started messing with my cab some more. in the past few days, ive done quite a bit.
ive added a piano hinge or whatever you call it to my cp...now allowing me to open it up and look at the wiring without having to prop the cp top on the cp itself. yeah it sucked i know.
ive added a volume control button that works great.
also, in an attempt to stablize my wobbly cp base (for those of you who remember, i was having problems with that) ive added two wood slats to run along the bottom of the cp and monitor base. its "helped" to stabilize but its still wobbly. im open to other suggestions other than the obvious (add weights to the bottom!) to make it more stable. ill take some pics tonight and post them here to show all ive done.
my next project other than to stabilize the cp, is to make two shelves so my speakers can sit on them. when i first built it, i had invisioned just getting some really strong velcro stuff and sticking the speakers to the wood. well they kept falling off during gaming and it would scare the crap out of me. so im going to build a couple of little shelves (that sounds gay...awww little shelves...so cute) to put the speakers on. im also wanting to build a nice bezel around the monitor as my make shift bezel of black posterboard attached to the tv kept falling down. yeah it sucked but oh well. i want to make a nice permanent solution here.
suggestions would be nice, and ill be posting pics soon. thanks for reading!

howdy! wow, its been a long time since i posted here.
just a little update....
ive made just about all the modifications i can make to my cab, well, that i want to anyway as far as construction goes. my latest addition has been more of a software/pc addition. ive upgraded the ram in my mame pc, and installed Mala as my FE. i havent completed everything yet, but ive added daphne, zinc, and atari 2600 emu's to my cab.
my next project is to make some sweet layouts in photoshop which will take a while, but will be worth it in the end i think. my old mamewah layout was basically pixelhuggers work, but i think im actually going to take the time to create my own layout this time around. it may turn out crappy, but it may not...we'll see.
anyway, for anyone that cares....and for anyone that doesnt care....hope you enjoyed reading!
p.s. - NO, i still dont have any plans, and probably wont have ever. for one reason, i dont really want to go back and measure everything all over again. for another reason, there are better dynamo/showcase style plans out there that are more official and probably better than mine now, so i always point everyone that asks to that. sorry!

The Hulkster lives!! How's that jukebox coming. ;)

The Hulkster lives!! How's that jukebox coming. ;)
ha, well i have a pc with all my mp3s on it...and i started to config the jukebox software, but i quit messing with that for a while and started working on my cab....and well....you see where i am now. i started talking about getting a touch screen and my wife about had a hernia, so if i did build a juke, it would probably look like crap. so i nixed that idea....for now...
-
i started talking about getting a touch screen and my wife about had a hernia
Hahaha...ouch :D

That sucks, when I told mine about a touchscreen jukebox, she told me to go out and make one already. She keeps pestering me to make it already.

sup everyone. it's been a LONG time since i posted about my cab that i created in 2004. its been sitting in my rec room at my house and getting used every so often. my son is now 2 years old, so all of my free time is gone basically...but now that he's getting a little older, i find myself with a little more each day. i'm sure that will go away as well eventually ;D
anyway, we recently decided to try to sell our house and move. as a result of trying to get the house cleaned up and "staged", i had to move my cab out of the house and back into the basement at my mom's house where it was built. whoa....yeah a little ironic dontcha think? i took it apart (as i designed it to be for easy moving) and i plan on reassembling it in my mom's basement so my nephews can play when they visit.
all of this moving of the arcade and whatnot got me thinking though...."what if our new house won't have room for my huge showcase cab?". so here i am...
i'm thinking of selling my Mamestrosity. i spent about $1500 on everything, so i would like to make around $2500 or so. anyway, i planned on taking whatever money i made on selling it and building a new upright cab to replace it ;D. so all is not lost, but i wanted to ask the opinion of everyone here on whether or not i should sell it.
ive learned a lot over time and i think whatever new cab i build will be much more professional and clean than my previous attempts. but i wont build a thing unless i can sell what i have. what do you guys think? sell or not to sell? :dunno
-
You spent $1500 but want $2500 back? :dizzy:
Did you get that the right way round? Either way I can't see it selling. If its worth that much to you then keep it.

took me 2-3 months to build....i thought that was worth SOMETHING. ;D maybe $2500 is a little much eh? what do you think it's worth then?
-
Can't buy it but dang I like showcase cabs. If I had the space, That might be my third next project ;)

yeah they are really awesome if you have the room. golden tee, 4 player beatem ups, etc. i'm a fairly big guy (6'3" 220lbs) so i need my elbow room. plus they really aren't that difficult to build.
-
I've sold my fair share of cabs. I think you'd be lucky to get 1k for it. Of course, it depends a lot on where you live.
Thats not bad though. Think of it this way, it will be a lot cheaper to build your replacement cab and you were able to enjoy it for the last 5-6 years. The market isn't the same as it was in 2004. People are pretty much giving away CRT TV's, which used to be one of the major expenses.

good point....i may drop the price pretty low and just make what i can off of it. and i've just stumbled upon (yet again) Knievel's designs and retro fits. i forgot i have a gutted dynamo cab in my mom's garage thats just been sitting there waiting for me to have more money to do something with it ;) at first i thought i wouldnt be able to make it a professional build like i want, but after seeing Knievel's stuff, i've been inspired again. so any money i did make would go to the new retrofit, and luckily i already have buttons, joysticks, etc to make it happen. now that i think about it, i could spend more money on the artwork and extra touches to make it really stand out.
*sigh* this forum is a black of hole of both doom and awesomeness at the same time. now i remember why i spent hours here ::)
