Title: Sunset Riders screen noise issue
Post by: V3rtigo3 on December 17, 2019, 03:16:29 pm
I have an NBA Jam 4p machine that I use for Konami and Midway 4p games. Sunset Riders has a weird brightness/snow/screen noise issue as seen here:

Basically, I get pink/purple/blue pixels around things like the hurry up arrow, insert coin at the top, the players, and basically anything on screen. The game works perfectly otherwise, and the screen is perfect with my other games (Simpsons, TMNT, NBA Jam, Open Ice, etc). The brightness adjustment on the monitor doesn't fix the issue.

Any ideas?

Is that an original PCB or a PC?

I'm assuming the rom check at boot-up comes out ok?

Do you have any experience with repairing PCB's?
I ask because this might require you to probe some IC's, particularly the Custom IC's that deal with sprite generation. Check out Caius' repair logs, he's dealt with sprite issues on these 90's Konami boards, and might give you a lead on what to probe.

yes, rom check is fine.

no to PCB repair, but i don't mind learning a bit before I decide if I can tackle this or if it needs a pro.

I'll start reading that link.
