My old PC died, and the harddrive lived. I had a heck of a time getting my old ata/ide drive contents to the sata drive in the new computer, and then a further battle getting windows to stay on the resolution I need for Mala to behave. Now the problem is that even though player one and two are assigned as joy 1 and joy 2 in the ultrastik software, they are reversed everywhere else. The mala menu. the games, etc. I'd rather find an easy way to set it right - any ideas?
I can't get the ultrastik software to recognize the sticks though it passes the driver installation. I'm stumped. I'm excited to use this new pc though, went from a 2.3 single core p4 to a 3.2 i5 so I expect to see some improvements!

Okay, I got it working properly. I ended up downloading a new version of the Ultramap utility (the one I had was in a folder I copied over from the old install, not sure it if matters actually.) Then, with the new utility open, I unplugged the controllers one by one and then searched... they were found. I ended up setting player 1 as ID #2 and player 2 as ID #1. I don't know what happened but it fixed it although having it swapped like that bugs me for some reason. I played a handful of random games that I knew had different button mappings and everything worked out just fine.
FYI the buttons on mine are laid out in a street fighter layout, plus a lower left button kind of like the run button in MK3. So the buttons are mapped with anything 4 buttons or less use the bottom 4 buttons that has a slight curve, and 5 or more use the rest. The second button on the top and the "run" button are actually on the same circuit because I don't know of/play any games that use 7 and this saved me from running out of inputs on the U360s (6 player buttons plus start and coin.) It was a pain to map all the games, I had a program that did it automatically but it missed a whol lot of them so over time I've been picking away at it.
...now I just gotta get the aimtracks working. Another day!

Nope, did not get it working. Hmmmmmmmmmmm
So the new issue I have is that the programs only respond to whichever controller I have assigned to use for older programs in the windows joystick dialogue. So I can only play one player at this point. Any ideas? I am investigating running the programs in compatibility modes currently.

Not sure if this will help since I don't use Ultrasticks. Mame has a way to set up controllers from switching ID's starting around version .185 or so. I'm not sure if this will help in your case. If so, take a look at Maverick's arcade vids on Utube.

I think it's an issue with windows somehow deciding that it needs to assign controllers because the program is not designed for the newer operating system - if I go into the windows joystick settings, it asks me which controller to use for older programs and whichever one I choose is the only one that works in mame and mala.
I'm going to instal windows 7 on a different partition and see if it likes that any better.

It's installing, and I live on an island. Friends just boarded the ferry and I am hoping that it is all sorted out in the 2 1/2 hours I have left until they arrive!
I chose Windows 7 x86 because I think my issues are linked to the age of my particular setup, and using the old architecture may just fix it. And all I use this computer for is gaming so fingers crossed it works!

Windows 7 here as well. Hope you get it sorted :)

Nope, it says that my computer won't run Windows 7. I think it can, but it won't download additional files during installation due to a proxy error. Will update when I can, and open to suggestions.

I tried while connected to the internet, it didn't work. Same error. So I browsed the web and came across this page:
https://www.dell.com/support/article/ca/en/cabsdt1/sln293812/windows-setup-could-not-configure-to-run-on-this-computer-s-hardware-error-during-windows-7-or-windows-10-installation?lang=en
It didn't exactly help, I ended up just manually typing the command c:\windows\system32\oobe and got an error. One step further, c:\windows\system32\oobe\msoobe and still an error. Finally, I guessed c:\windows\system32\oobe\msoobe.exe and it asked me to verify my license. And currently it's doing something! Fingers crossed!
**Update, after the restart it came back saying that it couldn't be installed.
