Title: Is Groovymame correct in selecting Time Crisis in 480p / 31khz?
Post by: Zebra on October 24, 2019, 02:13:47 pm
Most of the info I can find online states that Time Crisis 1, 2 and 3 are 15khz only PCBs (at 480i). When I play Time Crisis 1 in GM it outputs as 480p / 60. Is this because I haven't specifically added a 640 x 480 /60i modline, so GM selects the closest available res? Or is the info on the Arcade Museum and other sites wrong about these being sd res cabs?

My PC with GM and CRT EMU is set up with just the default tri-sync option. I never bothered to add any additional modes because the vast majority of the games I like output at accurate native res / refresh rates by default. Is 480i /60 a mode that needs to be added manually?

Not sure about TC3, but TC and TC2 (DX) were indeed 15-kHz.

Thanks. So it looks like I need to manually add a 480i mode for GM to select the correct native res.

From what I read recently, the 31khz dip switch on Namco 246 does not work for TC3. Not that this matters for mame as it doesn't look like it will ever work on emulators. It makes me feel better about playing the PS2 version though, now that I know the arcade didn't have progressive scan either.
