Title: Are reproduction marquees as good as originals on Plexi?
Post by: benarcade on September 23, 2019, 04:58:41 pm
From what I can see, a vintage Plexiglas Pacman marquee and an acrylic reproduction from PhoenixArcade costs about the same.

I'm slowly piecing together a cabinet for a multicade, where a faithful Pacman is one of the top priorities - with original joystick, leaf switches, etc.

Are the repros as good as the vintage Plexiglas?

If you are building a multicade you should just get the reproduction. They look good, and the original will be available for someone restoring a PacMan cab. I scratch built a Burgertime for my MAME machine. I used a reproduction marquee and bezel. They look really good.

Thanks! Do you have the translite type or the silkscreen on plexi? If the repro is basically the same as a new old stock, I'd go for a newly minted one.

Oddly enough I couldn't find a Pac Man marquee when I just searched their site.

I hear good things about these guys. They also have the glass bezel you would need.

Mike A is right on... This Old Game can be kinda slow but their stuff is top notch.

Phoenix Arcade is fantastic quality and fast shipping. (My personal preference are the silk screened to glass items)

Ive had good luck with EscapePod Online.  Some have had issues.

Joe Szabo also does fantastic work.  https://www.szabosarcades.com/search?type=product&q=Pacman  I have never been disappointed with any of his work.

If possible get the reverse mounted marquees and bezels...

The repop stuff is just fine if you don’t go the uber cheap eBay route...

I might have to go with Phoenix Arcade - their screening process is as close to actual silk-screening as you can get - the paint is applied directly to the Plexi. It's like getting a new, old stock but it's really new, new stock.
