Specifically dual-sticks for Robotron, is there anything like this currently available and for sale?
Even better if it has a trackball for Millipede and a spinning disc for Tempest.

i don't know of any controllers like that for the ps2,
there are arcade type joysticks though.
all the ones i know work on ps3 (which can play ps2 games), xbox 360, ps4, and xbox one
also, you will need an adapter, i use the : cronus max pro or XIM
and then you can either make your own spinner, or dial, and hook up arcade joysticks
through that.

Got a link to any dual sticks that can work with Robotron? I tried x-arcade and it failed.

i have had terrible luck with an x-arcade stick, they are supposed to have adapters that
claim to work with consoles.
but i never got it to work. it was some weird chain of 3 of them, like a snes-> ps -> xbox 360 one
and it never worked. i gave up trying.
then i went with the cronus max pro, and i can pretty much use any usb joystick or other one with it.
it works because you can reprogram every button and joystick direction and remap them to whatever you want.

Is it possible to use a PC controller like this - https://i.imgur.com/6NzKZxQ.jpg -
to play Midway Origins Robotron on a PS3, and map it so that the second stick becomes the player 1 fire button?
edit; i just noticed that controller is actually 2 with 2 USBs, so I guess it wouldn't work? Is there a dual-stick with one USB?

You could buy one of these. It can be customized for the controls you want. Assembly is easy. Haruman will know what you are looking for.

You could try a phone call.

Or, just hack a regular PS2 game pad.
Wire the D-pad to one joystick and the four face buttons to a second. Then wire the shoulder buttons to any buttons you need for the game.

Haruman is also a mod here, you could try PM'ing him as well.

I may get flamed for suggesting it, but the Quasicon (by Quasimoto) is what you're looking for.
A quick search on ebay shows zero results for Quasicon or Quasicade, so finding one may be near impossible.
I've had one for years, and it was perfect for the PS2 and OG Xbox (plus PC and gamecube)
Good luck!
