I'm building a barrel arcade based on this one https://retroarcadebarrels.com/
It wasn't until after I made the control panels & drilled the holes that I remember Gun.Smoke uses 3 buttons. Is it possible to play with only 2, or am I SOL?
Here's my control panel, I could add a 3rd button, but it would be tight. https://imgur.com/a/lSr2788

If you're using MAME, you should be able to reconfigure input so that B1 fires left, B2 fires right and B1+B2 fires forward.
edit: you would need to define left fire as B1 being pressed on it's own. Same for right fire. I was sure there was a way to do this in MAME but can't remember how it's done. Anyone know, or did I imagine it?

Hit tab, select remap this game, go to the line for the button that shoots up, press enter, hit both buttons at the same time. Done.

That's all I thought you have to do too, but it doesn't seem to work.

What about with a 60 in 1 board?

Get creative with your wiring so that buttons 1 and 2 hit at the same time complete the circuit for button 3.

If you have cash to burn you could buy this.

The 2 to 3 button adapter might work for you.

Also, looking at your control panel, you could make it so that the third button is down by your thumb if you use first two with your index and middle finger. If that feels natural to you, it might be worth a go.

Highlight button 1, press enter, press the left button then QUICKLY double-tap the right button
Highlight button 2, press enter, press both buttons
Highlight button 3, press enter, press the right button then QUICKLY double-tap the left button
If done correctly it should say:
left not right
left right
right not left

I think I'll do this... Thanks Vigo.

Ah! I was sure there was a way to do it, just couldn't remember how. Seems like the OP has a 60-in-1 though, so can't use this method.

enter service mode and change the dip switch setting on gun smoke from 3 button to 1 button.

THANK YOU... Now I don't have to drill any further ;D

1, button, 2 buttons, 3 buttons.... practice & let me know when you'd like to go head to head ;-)
This game should really be played with 3-Button configuration. Mainly because that's how it's intended to be played, you have the ability so spray buttons with different button combinations. Look at the instruction card. This allows you to have 6 different combinations, the proper way to play the game... just saying, but what would I know about that game.
