Title: Recommendations for 45cm width monitor
Post by: Thfourteen on August 02, 2019, 02:52:26 pm
Hey folks! In the process of building my first Bartop (mdf pre cut from a kit - I have no woodworking space or tools so please don’t shoot me, I’ll be doing everything else myself!).

Question I have, the internal width is 45cm max. What’s the best monitor I can get in that space?

Do people recommend widescreen or 5:4? Either way I don’t think I can find anything larger than 19”, if I go widescreen then I lose vertical play space for emulated games and MAME, but I guess I can get MAME funky bezels and artwork.

What do you reckon?

Also eBay is a minefield for the £30 monitor market here, no guarantees of anything...

Here you go, my good man...

Looks like a 20.3 5:4 or 4:3 lcd will maximise the most space. You can't really go much bigger as the frame is larger than the display.

16:9 is crap for pre 2005 (ish) stuff.

@markc74

Brilliant thank you!

Looking at that, I might be able to fit a 20” 4:3. Found a dell 2007fp on eBay with a grade A screen for £40, will take the plunge.

I think it’s 6mm too tall but if I take the plastic off it might work.
