Well as mentioned in the chuff thread I got me some Dino King/Love and Berry cabs the other day.
I crammed 3 into the back of the mother in laws vw caddy.
2 are mine and the white dino is a friends.
So I am starting with the L&B white cab with tge intention of turning it into a Super Neo 29 Mini candy cab.
So first things first gut that ---smurfette---!
My mobo is a MV-1F which you may know are fairly large boards:
This PCB will fit nicely on the larger of the 2 shelfs.
But the metal service panel is in the way.
I could cut the top off the panel and mount it on the smaller shelf.
But I thought it better to leave it on the top and mount the PSU on the top behind the removeable hatch.
In my opinion its a good place to mount it so its easy to adjust but still covered from the front.
So I modified the panel to fit the smaller shelf.
That causes its own issues in that i need to mount the larger shelf in the lower shelf which is not as deep.
So I cut the sides back a little on the larger board so it would slide in full depth of the lower shelf.

Well thats it for tonight more to do tomorrow :p

Cheers Firedance.
Well lots of progress been made tonight!
So first things first wiring!
I wired up the complete Jamma harness, The player controls have been wired to a 21 pin JST so I can hot swap CPs between 1 and 2 player layouts.
I removed the VGA cable that plugged into the monitor and wired the monitor connections into a 6 pin JST connector.
The speaker and coin door bundle had also been wired into JST’s but you get the idea....
So overall look of the back of the cab after everything had been connected and the earths re-instated etc.
So with all that complete I figured it was time for a power on test!
After clenching my butt cheeks and flipping the switch there was a pop and nothing.... :(
Que brown pants and a little worry...
Well after steadying myself I determined it had popped the 3A fuse in the IEC lead.
So with the hope of it just being inrush current to the iso tranny and the machine being protected by its own 3A trip I popped a bigger fuse in, Clenched ass for a second time and flipped the switch...
And the tranny did doth hum..... progress!
I then flipped the monitor switch and that did doth hum to!
Few seconds later and I could see a nice bright test grid!! :D
So power down and insert a puzz bob boot I have.
Powered back on to the sweet sound of the neo geo intro music and a garbled screen!
So another power off and a quick slot clean and we have victory!!
I had a quick game using my neo controllers for my CMVS to check all was ok and the only problems I found was the test switch did not work and I have a problem with the coin mech/counter circuit.
The test switch was a easy fix.
I had wired it for MVS test switch and it wanted the normal Jamma test switch so thats fixed.
As for the coin door I am not sure where to start with that atm so I will look at that another night because ime rather tired now!
-
Np, glad to help :)
good progress so far.
-
Done a little more tonight.
First thing I wanted to do was sort my coin door wiring out.
So I pulled the coin counter tray back out and immediately found the problem!
I had managed to break one of the ground wires off!
So quick re-crimp and power on for a test...
All good!
I now have a working coin acceptor/counter and credits to the machine :)
It seems to be set for 2 creds for £1 at the moment but I will probably see if I can reprogram that at some point.
I also found this rather cool Sega key buried under the counter tray.
I actually found it the other day but forgot to mention it!
Shame I dont have any sega locks :(
(https://uploads.tapatalk-cdn.com/20190711/7ed9b799ebfcbd709ca946f9bc07e3fb.jpg)
I also made a custom poly carb safety guard to cover the front access to the mains incomer and the iso tranny.
After that I decided I need a break so I just peeled all the old art off and gave it a good clean inside and out.
I also vinyl coated the old card dispenser so it matches the rest of the cab.
Thats it for tonight me thinks.
New locks should be here tomorrow so I can lock it back up properly then after that its trying to fix up the plastic bezels but I am not sure exactly how I am doing that yet.
Still I am happy with the progress so far :)

It's so dang cute it hurts.
How the pricing of those things?

It's so dang cute it hurts.
How the pricing of those things?
I know right!?
That was the first thing everyone has said lol
Prices seem to vary, I got these @ £300 ea but the going rate on flea bay seems to be 400-450
-
Wow this seems so cool! I would love to get one for my kids and install my 2-slot!

Today I started on what I think is the hardest part of this job.
The bezel plastic!
Both bezels have cracks, one worse than tge other but both in the same places which leads me to believe it is their weak spot.
So I want to reinforce them to prevent if getting any worse as these will be impossible to replace.
The nog so bad one I think I may be able to get away keeping it original yellowing en all.
But the other will allmost certainly need painting or coating.
So first thing I did was the “easy” fix.
I coated all the cracks with superglue.
Now I dont trust this and I dont expect it to really hold it together but its something.
Now my thoughts turned to how the hell do I re-inforce this stuff without either filling it or going nuts with messy fibre glass etc.
I found this and I am hoping its going to work...
Pretty un-exciting eh? Lol
Its a plastic repair patch.
Basically you heat it up with the hot air gun, then once its soft you simply peel the back off and stick it in place.
In my case over the cracks on the inside.
It seems very strong and sets hard I just hope its properly adhered to the plastic underneath.
You have to be quick with it as it starts going hard pretty quickly.
I guess time will tell....
-
Good work so far.

Good work so far.
Cheers Mike, Its getting there!

So as expected progress has slowed due to waiting on CP’s, Artwork and the Wife.
But CP’s are now on route to me, GFX are with the printers and I got a shiny new uni-bios in :)
Coin lights also arrived and working :)
And on a slightly related note I had a move around of the games room in order to fit these lil cuteys in once finished.
But I also picked up this cool as feck banner for the bad of the door :)

Oh and I keep forgetting I battery mod’d the mobo to before anything went boom!!

I am still waiting on artwork and I realised once my new CP’s arrived that I had ---fouled up beyond all recognition--- up and ordered the wrong mounting plates (Doh!) So had to order some new plates to.
So in the mean time I decided to hit the orange cab.
I was not sure what to do with this cab when I got it tbh, I mainly got it as a donor cab to swap bits with the white one if required and planned to sell it on.
But after getting it home etc I decided to keep it for now.
So after many thoughts and ideas I decided to kill 2 birds with one stone.
So I decided I wanted something simple and generic and keep Jamma. But also I wanted to try one of those multi boards out.
I picked up a Pandoras box 6 and wired that in to the cab which looks ok (cant test controls though obv)
I wont upload progress pics as they are basically the same as the above but here is one of the Harness I did for it before installation:
And one of first boot up:
I wired the 21 Pin JST the same as the neo berry so I can swap control panels if I want.
But because the pandora uses 6 buttons I added a extra 8 way JST to act as a kick harness of sorts and will allow connection of P1 and P2 buttons 5&6.
Obv P2 button 5&6 will never get used but they are connected in anyways.
And that will be all from me now until the artwork is printed so adios for now :p
-
More work done on the Pandora cab today.
The damaged bezel was filled, Sanded and then Vinyl wrapped matt black using the spare I had from when I did the site 4 cab.
I also knocked up a basic marquee and instruction card that came out fantastically imo.
I have also temp wired up a panel just so I can actually properly use and play test both cabs until the stuff arrives to finish them both.
There is nothing else to do now until my 1p6b panel arrives for the pandora cab and the artwork arrives for the neo berry so in the mean time all I can do is play :)
-
My 1p6b panel arrived today!
So after giving it a good scrub up to get the rusting off (its been in storage a while!) the ms worked her magic with the vinyl and I mounted the hardware and wired it all up.
And so bar the 3 screws at the top of the bezel plexi which I am waiting on dome nuts for the orange dino is now complete!
Its currently 1:30am though so no play testing till the morning.....

Thanks Neph :)
They really are wicked lil cabs to work on!
-
So a small update to bring me back to the neo berry (but significant).
So the sides were pretty badly scratched up from people doing the old “rub the coin to work” trick and they were really deep on the one side so I filled and painted it white with the airbrush to even it out.
Of course I could not get the colour to match so both sides were then vinyl coated which surprisingly is a very close match so I didnt bother doing the back or door.
I have had the Bezel proffesionally resprayed at a body shop and it looks goooodddd!
Cant even see where the cracks were but photos dont really do it justice.
I also brought some sticker printer paper and laminate sheet stuff to make some custom credit stickers.
Now I just need the artwork!
-
Looking good, may i ask where you sourced the white vinyl from, i got some from ebay last year, was pretty thin as you could see the MDF texture underneath :o

Mine was also thin from Ebay.
Thats why I had to paint underneath otherwise it would of shown through.
I think its just the White that has this problem as all the coloured vinyls I have used so far (mostly dark admittedly) have been fine and the same make.

Thanks for the info, have also used this is the past - https://www.wilko.com/en-uk/d-c-fix-glossy-white-self-adhesive-film-675cm-x-2m/p/0309609 way thicker than the ebay stuff :)

Sticks very well to unprimed MDF, had to pull some of a piece, left the surface rough, had to resand so yeah it sticks pretty well, didn't have problems with bubbles either :)
-
Ahh so it sticks a bit to well then! Lol
Cheers for the heads up anyway :)
-
Ok its finished! :D
The artwork took a little longer to get than I had hoped but I think it was worth the wait!
I am well chuffed with the results but here are the final pics....
So fitted with 1 player panel:

Tiny update.
I wanted a marquee header where I could swap out the marquees like a original neo.
The original neo 29’s header wasnt going to work and the dino king headers were huge and was not going to fit either so I went all custom again.
Think it looks pretty good.

Looks good.

That looks great Titch, you make that your self by hand? Well done.

That looks great Titch, you make that your self by hand? Well done.
I designed it but it was cut on a CNC and printed by a company I use.
-
Gosh darn I am jealous. Beauty job.
I dunno if it's just me or the fact I'm low on space, but I keep finding myself attracted to the smaller cabinets like this one. Packs a lot into a small package. I'm sure it sounds weird and they got names for it, but it's starting to grow on me.
If only there were friggin DinoKings in Canada that one could find, I too could play this game. Or is it "those games"? Heh.
Ace job Titch! Love the little custom coin decals, the extra bits go far.

Thanks Morton,
Yes they pack a big punch for a small cabinet and they are so customisable!
There was tons of them over here at one point but the supply seems to of dried up some what and they are in demand when they do come up.
I got lucky on mine really as I was cheeky enough to ask someone and turns out they had 3 to sell!
And yeah I like the little extras that many dont notice heh
