Title: Mr. Mom - good, wholesome Comedy
Post by: Mr. Peabody on June 21, 2019, 07:37:22 pm
I don't mean The Andy Griffith Show wholesome, which is its own kind of goodness.

People seem to forget this was a John Hughes movie. I don't know as I knew. I love this movie. Well done, and FUN.

@Yots: I remember that line, but don't recall it recently. What scene?

@Howard: I haven't seen much of Beetlejuice. I wasn't interested back then, and it hasn't been available in recent years when I've looked.

Aethetically absent. Her image was super-imposed, as the kids' may have been.

“220, 221, whatever it takes,”

It's funny - but it's ridiculous. He's an engineer. I'm sure he knows what's in the wall and at the box.

Following that in the 'soap opera death scene', Ron asks whether it was a .38. She used a Colt .45 .

Heh - I mixed up my Keaton movies. I’m thinking Gung Ho, not Mister Mom.

For completists, in Gung Ho, Keaton is talking to the Japanese who are now running the US auto plant, and they ask him a question. He sarcastically answers “Is a frog’s ass watertight?” The Japanese engineers confer, and the the translator replies back with “Yes, we believe it is”.

Keaton's performances, particularly his early work, is all so off-putting that you can really use any line from any film interchangeably and it works.  Not that it's a bad thing mind you.

Ha, I think it was called Working Class Man in Australia for some reason...

@Yots: a-haa. That makes sense. I remember.

@Howard: off-putting?  Um, what?  For reference, Batman is the last movie of Keaton's I can name, and like. I love Clean and Sober, and the ending, in that he was able to let it all go, including let her go, because she couldn't take care of herself.

He just says weird stuff in every film he's in.  Probably the most famous is "you wanna get nuts!  lets get nuts!" from batman.

Oh yeah. I remember thinking that was a weird bit. I was surprised at the open confrontation, expecting Wayne to skulk and watch Vale be taken, and he could track them..... Isn't that a Batty thing to do?
