Title: Best Way to Improve Button Consistency?
Post by: Dallinj on June 15, 2019, 06:58:22 pm
I've got a dozen IL convex buttons w/ 50 gram microswitches (these to be exact: https://paradisearcadeshop.com/home/controls/buttons/il-industrias-lorenzo/il-psl-lcv-series/898_il-psl-lcv-convex-button-clear-white-black-plunger) that all have issues with consistently triggering the microswitches. They're 100% consistent when pressed from the side that lines up with the actual switch (ie: right side) but the other side is only 25% consistent when pressed down. Is there any easy solution to this issue? I was thinking a tiny dab of hot glue on the plunger could fix it but that's more of a last resort. Any help?

Press the middle?  :dunno

Press the middle?  :dunno

 :notworthy:

I meant it more as the left half of the button, and the right half of the button, so when pressed directly in the middle it kinda splits the difference and triggers 75% of the time.  I know it's a dumb question  :laugh2:

Honestly, I think it's those cheap ass microswitches. I use concave buttons... wouldn't think there'd be much of an issue with convex plungers, though.

50 grams.....je-sus. Whether you stay with that resistance, try different switches as mentioned.

I have experienced the greatest performance with Sanwa flat plunger buttons. Those are half-height. Longer plungers have greater 'sway'. No buttons are built to have straight travel, as that would require tighter tolerance, hence at best a modified design, possibly lube to prevent resistance, or different material(s) that is self-lubing.

None of that make sense, Mike A?
