Title: Issues with Dell UltraScan P991 Trinitron
Post by: yo1dog on June 10, 2019, 07:24:58 pm
Just picked up a Dell UltraScan P991 Trinitron 19" CRT monitor for $25 off Craigslist. May go in my cab or I may keep for my classic PC setup. That or my Sony PVM if I want to stick with native resolutions.

I've been very passively looking for a CRT monitor. When I saw Trinitron I said "Aight.".

Edit:
Welp I turned it on and it has some issues. First off, it is way too bright. Even with the brightness all the way down blacks appear grey and colors are washed out. Second, it has diagonal red, blue, and green lines. Seem to be retrace lines... but all 3 colors? See pictures below. Any advice?

Been doing some research. Seems the retrace lines can occur when the brightness is too high. So it really may just be the one problem with the brightness.

Any tips on diagnosing what would cause the brightness to be too high? I set the brightness all the way to 0 using the on screen menu and i't still too bright.

For lack of other options, I found a guy who repairs CRTs here in Austin. His estimate was $200. Hmmm...
