Title: dos mame help please
Post by: jimmyjet on February 12, 2004, 07:35:45 pm
 I have installed mame .77 dos version.  I put the puckman zip in the rom file.   When I attempt to run the puckman, I get an error message that looks a little like this:

Error creating primary buffer 80070057
Exception at EIP=d07E516B1:Access Violation
while attempting to read memory at FFFFFFFF
EAX=00000000 EBX=0000F800 ECX=00000000 EDX=00000012
ESI=00007C00 EDI=00000001 EBP=022CFDE8

This is running on Windows98 on an AMD K6-2/300.  I was hoping to put this unit in my dedicated mame cabinet, but can't get the games to run.

Thank you in advance.  Jimmyjet

Although I can't recall right off the top of my head the actual message, I do remember something of that sort when I was messing around with the VESA modes, and certain display configs.

What I would do is delete the mame.cfg file, and have mame simply create a new one, see then if the problem still persists.

Thanks for the tip.  Now I'm getting a new error message:

Error importing DirectDrawCreateEx() function
Unable to start video emulation.

This computer runs Mame32 without problems.  Any additional help or tips would be greatly appreciated.   Thanks.

Are you sure you're running DOS Mame? I wasn't aware of DirectDraw in the DOS release. That's usually associated with Win32 apps and DirectX, which isn't a part of the DOS system.

*** Almost forgot ... if you do run DOS Mame, make sure you download the CWSDMPI.zip file and extract it to the MAME directory.

Both can be found on the MAME site under the download section.

According to your specs ... you might want to try the older versions of DOS Mame, I would start at v36.

Thanks for the response.  I will download the file and retry.  I will also try the older version of mame.

I'm having the same issue (Error creating primary buffer 80070057) also running win98.  Wonder if this worked for Jimmyjet?  I know this post is old...but I can't find the dang CWSDMPI.zip file anywhere.

If anyone has any input please fire away...otherwise I'll start back versioning.

Doh!  :P

I guess that's what happens when you
a) have spent hours trying to figure something out and reached the frustration point.
b) search for CWSDMPI.zip instead of CWSDMPI

Thanks!
