Title: How do I change X-arcade joystick to Ultimarc T-Stick plus
Post by: markymarkf on February 12, 2004, 03:07:20 pm
Hi I am new to this arcade control stuff, i have been Maming for years but I just recently bought an X-arcade (couldn't afford a Slik Stik, but i really want a dedicated 4-way controller. So then I saw that Ultimarc makes a controller that you can switch from 4 way to 8 way without opening up the controller. Can i change it for this, is it difficult , and has anyone done this? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks
Mark

If you are refering to the technical aspect of the sticks, pretty much all arcade joysticks operate in the same basic way and they will be interchangable both ways.

As for the size of the stick/base and the mounting holes, those might be different so you may need to fill/drill some new holes.

Note:I am not particularly familiar with the x-arcade so I'm not sure if there is anything I'm leaving out that is x-arcade specific like, opening the thing up for instance...

So you just usually swap out the parts and leave all the connections to the I-pac or whatever the interface is called intact and it should be fine? I hope this is the case because I am looking to purchase one. If anyone can shed any more light to the matter please chime in.

Thanks
Mark

Rant:
First I would take back the x-arcade I think they are just are way overpriced for their quality.  Just build your own that way you can customize it to whatever hardware you want its really not that hard.
End rant:

I dont know what pattern of holes the x-arcade stick has for its joy but if they are they are like happs then you might need to drill a new hole pattern for the t-stik to fit.  The t-stik uses the skinnier hole patten.  The happs also have this pattern but most everybody uses the bigger hole patter for some reason I'm not sure why.  Open up your x-arcade (that is if you dont take it back ;)) and look at how far away the holes are from each other.  Then go to www.ultimarc.com and look up the hole patter for the t-stik and if they match it will be real easy if not you may have to drill 2 or 4 new holes depending on the spacing of the originals.

You can switch out the sticks and it will work great.  The only real work you will probably have to do is MAYBE drill new holes in the X Arcade for the carriage bolt pattern of the T-Stick.  But it might end up being the same as the X-Arcade joystick. I dunno.  Anyways thats no big deal to do.  Overally, yes you can do this.
