I assume a hole saw will do the trick for pushbuttons? The metal is only 1/8" thick, as is with most metal panels. And is it wrong for me to assume that the sheet metal is NOT stainless steel? Because I know I'll need a different type bit for harder metals.

You'll need a different type of hole saw than the one you used for wood regardless of the metal type. Most hole saws that are made for wood will barely scratch metal. Just make sure you're using the right type of hole saw and you shouldn't have a problem.

Or as has been pointed out several times on this forum, you might try a Greelee hole punch. They are much easier to work with.

I think you mean Greenlee, and I agree they do look very handy. I really should buy one before I start my next panel.

I have a hard time dropping $35 on a bit I'll rarely use.

Sell it after you're done.

Right, you can usually get $10-20 bucks for it on eBay, or I'm sure someone around here would buy it off you.

I took my metal CP to a sheet metal shop in town and had them punch the holes for me. It cost less than $35 for one bit :o

I agree, buy it, use it for what you need it for, and I will buy it from you for $10 if no one else bids higher.
Or even better, just keep it, as you can NEVER have too many tools!
