Title: Analog + dual strike question
Post by: Lilwolf on February 12, 2004, 10:11:32 am
Well, I finally started hacking my analog controls... Had a dual strike for a long time... and bought more on ebay then I had time to build control panels for..

Anyway... the question

I have two different analog controllers (hydra and a flight stick) that BOTH jerked around a bit.  I thought it was my dual strike because they BOTH did it exactly the same.  I then did both of my T2 controllers and they work GREAT!

I then rewired my hydra and it works great now..

but the question is this.  Are there any weird wiring with the pots on some arcade analog controls?  I know how they are suppost to work... I have the other before rewiring and wondering if there is another 'standard'?

Has anyone else seen this problem before?  (just seems weird buying 4 analog controllers on ebay... and having two kinda work... good pots... but jump around exactly the same)

Thanks

Hmmm...  Sounds strangely familiar.  I know that I have been in the Windows joystick calibration screen and watched the crosshairs jumping all over the place.  Moving the joystick affects the crosshairs, but with the jumping around it's not usable.  I don't really remember when or why I had these problems, though, or if it was even with the Dual Strike hack.

I guess this response is fairly useless, except to say that you're not completely alone.

Are you testing the hacked controllers under the "test" section from under the ControlsPanel/GameControllers/Properties window or are you testing them in Mame?

I had one pot which was causing me problems ... never found out why .... but I simply used one of the other pots from my Dual Strike to connect to.  I hacked 6 Dual Strikes so I had some extra pots to connect too.

It WAS the wiring (at least in the hydra)... because it went away when I rewired...

so I calibrated... then it STILL jumped around..

the question is if there is another 'standard' for wiring in analog controllers (other then ground -> pot -> pot -> +5 volts... each center going to its own)...
