Title: Are these CRT's worth fixing?
Post by: LevelByLevel Gamer on April 07, 2019, 03:49:15 pm: I have these crt's that were taken from Golden Tee's which can be seen where I removed them here https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCN25Sl8nR2pcbikBa2ZRZvQ below are the pics. One is fuzzy but works and the other "Popped" when I connected the converter board pictured to a raspberry pi and the color is out. I'm new to the hobby and the sight. My YouTube has some things like xx in x boards which I was told not to post direct links too for violation of forum policies (new to forum too ;D) but I am under the impression that my channel in general does not violate.

I wouldnt worry about the value. Fix them. LCD does not compare. There is some great support here and on Facebook groups like crt collective.

Another question is will the work in vertical and horizontal cabs? I have a Mr's Pac Man that is doing some weird stuff and the screen is looking dull and has burn in. One of these at full color might do the trick.

Post by: Gilrock on April 10, 2019, 11:02:36 am: I paid $500 apiece for 2 CRTs recently but for that price the CRT had been washed, re-capped, and possibly a tube swap because there was zero burn in and it included shipping. So yeah you can get $500 but only after putting them into good shape. Not sure what someone would pay for just the raw monitor pulled from a cab.

There is no such thing as a vertical monitor. Its just a regular monitor turned 90 degrees.

I have a cocktail mrs pac man I need to figure out the issues and that screen is mounted vertical plus a xx in x board i used on one of those would only adjust to fit the bottom portion of the screen. I assumed (new to this) that some how some boards/monitors were designed or programmed to be mounted either vert or horizontal. I'm going to post a vid of what the pac man is doing in the arcade repairs section here shortly before night shift. Thanks for the replies guys :D

Boards are PCBs. They are programmed. Monitors are not. Games are designed with the monitor orientation in mind, as the monitor (especially CRT) operates the same way regardless of game orientation.

Post by: opt2not on May 07, 2019, 07:03:22 pm: You should be cognizant of mounting frames for monitors though. Some people don't care whether their monitor is in a vertical or horizontal frame, this is apparent when you see conversions. But the proper mounting frame helps secure your monitor.

There's a guy on KLOV trying to sell a 19" K7000 for $500, which is absolutely ludicrous. A rebuilt 19" monitor should cost around the $250 mark, IMO. A rebuilt chassis goes around $160 by itself. Tubes and frames shouldn't jump the price up to more than double the cost of the chassis.

Post by: LevelByLevel Gamer on May 12, 2019, 07:11:23 pm: I have decided to keep these for future projects and as learning tools. My CRT knowledge is very limited. I did discharge the electricity with a grounded screwdriver and wire (nerve racking first time LOL). my next question is are these universal to all arcade cabs? thank you guys again for the responses ;D

the size and if the game requires standard or medium res are the only non universal things about arcade monitors.
