Title: Help with VMMaker
Post by: B2K24 on April 01, 2019, 05:31:08 pm
Hey guys, I just brought home a Phillips 27PT543S37A and when I connect my PC to this VGA->component transcoder (key digital KD-VTCA3)
I get a vertical rolling picture effect when enable the EDID emulation >>> https://www.digitalconnection.com/Products/Video/kdvtca3.asp

What's weird is I can use the same transcoder with my Sony Trinitron CRT without issue.

What can I adjust to fix this? Any help is appreciated.

Is that a PAL TV? Can you check if the PAL preset makes any difference?

I checked both the PAL and NTSC presets and they weren't usable. The TV definitely seems to be NTSC ---> https://imgur.com/a/veYJEhZ

I'll keep trying the different 15 kHz presets and see if I can make it work otherwise I don't know how to correct the issue.

It's clearly a vertical sync issue. Have you tried it with other sources? Any reason you're using 12.6 rather than the newer version? I'd check in the service menu for a v-hold or v-freq adjustment, though I doubt it's that. For some reason it seems your TV doesn't like the encoding of the sync signal. I'd try increasing/modifying the vertical sync pulse of the monitor preset, but I neither think it's fixable that way. Sorry, I have no experience with component transcoders.

I don't have any other sources to try when it comes to component. I have a chipped PlayStation 1 that I connected with S-Video and it runs the intro of NTSC Final Fantasy VIII flawlessly.

What's weird is I can take the exact same PC with the same component transcoder and it works with my Sony Trinitron.

I thought I was using the latest version. I'll double check that and try again, but at this point I'm thinking it's something with the TV or Transcoder itself. Perhaps some kind of incompatibility. I ordered a Retrotek VGACTV1 and I'm curious to see if that makes a difference when it arrives.

Thanks for your replies and all of your work.

So I managed to wrestle a beast and I got a JVC  AV-32D302 loaded in the car (barely) and got it home. It's doing the exact same thing as the Phillips where the desktop produces a vertical roll. I guess the Sony Trinitron is more forgiving as it doesn't do it on that unit.

Anyway, It's either the transcoder or video card at this point so I'm anxious to test a different and new transcoder when it arrives *fingers crossed*
