Title: Stop Buttons From Spinning?
Post by: Oldskool on February 10, 2004, 09:14:41 pm

I'm just about to start installing my leaf switch translucent buttons, and will be using them for start buttons also.

If I stick on "vinyl men" (player 1 and 2 start), I'd like to stop the buttons from rotating in their holders to keep the men aligned.

Any ideas?

you said leaf switches right?  If so I assume from what leaf switches I've seen, that the leaf part hangs out a bit from the switch.  If you are doing this on a wood panel, I would just run a screw on the underside of the wood that doesn't go all the way through on both sides of the leafs, keeping it from rotating.

Edit:  I just looked at a leaf switch I had and noticed it doesn't work like that and the center button would still rotate.  Sorry.

You might however, be able to use a little dab of epoxy or something similar to glue a little bump, that the e-clip will catch on and then not turn.  This is all based on the leaf switch I have, maybe if you post a pic I can be of more help.

ok, here is crude pic of the bottom of the switch where the e-clip holds the center portion inside the threaded portion.  I would carefully drill a small hole shown and the put a small pin or something wedged in the hole but sticking up so the e-clip will hit it if the center piece starts to rotate.  Just an idea off the top of my head, there may be a better way, I tend to over engineer things.

maybe just drill a little hole in the leaf switch and button and install a small screw... kinda like this:
