What front end is best for XP with an arcade monitor and arcadevga? Is Mame32 good with an arcade monitor? I was told it would look crappy? Can anyone help?

Good question, this is my exact set up so I would be interested as well. At the moment I'm planning on just using Mame32 Windows FE ( only coz I'm such a computer noob ).

I'm using mamewah--looks great at 640x480 and I'm told, although didn't work for me, that it also looks good at a non-interlaced 640x288 (less flicker)
mame32 would probably look slightly crappy on an arcade monitor because it's detail level is higer than most arcade monitor's will display--all those little icons which look sexy on your pc just look like colored blobs on an arcade monitor.

Mine (JFront) works at lower resolutions. I have a screen setup for 320x240... but you would probably want to create one special for it...
JFront stopped changing the resolution of the monitor.. You set the size and set the resolution (there is some nice command line applications to do this for you) and it runs... One of the ncie things is you can setup your skin for 640x288 in another resolution (640x480) so you can get it working the way you like it with a standard monitor.
But basically any of the fully skinnable ones will work. Picking the font is one of the more annoying parts...

Check out Kymaera www.pacmanfan.com (http://www.pacmanfan.com) , It works great with XP. It's full screen, fully configurable, supports movies, relatively easy, and you don't have to edit a single cfg file.

do you have any docs? when i run the main prog, my screen goes black and then right back to the desktop.

check the kymaera thread at the top of this forum. If you're running multi-monitor, you'll have to turn one off.

Yes MW can use any resolution your card supports - although 640x288 is less flickery that 640x480, personally I don't like the 'stretched-ness' of that mode.
I use 368x240, it looks great on an arcade screen :)
